Pitches

  • Quiet site on the north-east coast between Filey and Scarborough
  • A 15-minute walk from Cayton Bay beach via a traffic-free path
  • Farm shop and café next door; pub 10 minutes' walk away
Some visitors wax lyrical about North Yorkshire’s coastline, while others are rather fonder of its countryside… so it’s handy indeed that you can easily check out both aspects of the county’s scenery during a stay at The Paddock Campsite. This quiet, friendly site is just outside the village of Lebberston, on the coast between Filey and Scarborough (both of which are within a 10-minute drive). For your seaside strolls, a traffic-free path runs down to the sands of Cayton Bay beach – it’ll take you about 15 minutes to get down to the beach, a wide bay that welcomes dogs all year round and is popular with birdwatchers, fossil hunters and rockpoolers as well as those seeking coastal walks or days spent on the sand. And for your country ambles, a drive of 15 minutes or so gets you up to the outer edges of the North York Moors National Park – although you can get a decent enough taste of the local scenery with the rural views around the park itself if you're not in the mood to travel far. Handy bonuses for guests at this site are a farm shop and café pretty much next door, and a pub about 10 minutes’ walk away. Barbecues and campfires are permitted on site if you fancy using some of that farm shop produce for alfresco cookery. Firepits are available on site to help with outdoor food prep and keeping warm; other facilities on site include three hot showers, three toilets, a clean water tap and chemical waste disposal facilities.

What customers say

A small, friendly spot close to the beach & shops. Hosts are helpful, site is clean & peaceful. Flies & road noise can be an issue, but good value overall. Pitch levelling's better now.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Location is great. Only a short walk to Cayton Bay beach which is beautiful and a must to visit. Especially on an evening when the sun is setting.
Cafe and pub nearby that do a great breakfast.
Young man who brought our fire pit and wood was very polite.
Quiet campsite.

Disliked The flies! There were so many flies around. Toilets and showers were swarming with them. A can of fly spray was available but was horrible to walk into when sprayed. No fly traps. Dead flies were all over the floors in the shower rooms that weren’t cleaned up from the night before.
Bins had hundreds of flies in so all flew out when you put your rubbish in.
We were told to go along the hedgerow which barely had any grass.

From the manager: Thankyou for taking the time to write a review of our site.
Yeah we did have some exceptionally warm weather 19/6 & this prompted a spike in flies throughout our whole area,Scarborough & Filey .
Its a tricky situation in dealing with the flies,I find spraying the showerblock most effective i do this regularly usually begore guests get up & when they are out .I sweep, mop & clean up after the flies around 3 times daily.Sunday I was in the showerblock clearing the flies from 6.45.am then again at 9:30 the 12.30 i also clean the block in the evenings aswell as the morning cleans.
Fly traps are effective but they can look unsightly. As regards thr bin area, Sunday am the bin was full of old tents,air-beds & camping chairs etc which overloaded the bin.I did take these items to the tip & the bin then had space for regular rubbish.Bins are emptied every Monday & sometimes Fridays during peak times

Was Ideal for the short walk to Cayton Bay but won't go back

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The location

Disliked The tent pitches were very uneven no matter where you were the pitch sloped down. The showers were just say warm on not enough space to get dried and dressed. The place was overrun with flys in the toilets and on your pitch they were overpowering.

From the manager: Thankyou for taking your time to write a review .I'm so sorry you were disappointed with your stay with us.Most of our customers are happy with their camping experience with at The Paddock CampsiteRedcliffeLaneLebberstonYO113NT.As you say the location is excellent for walks to the beach & i add local amenities ie Plough Pub 10mins,24 Spa Grocery store farmshop next door & we are on the No.1 cycle route. If youd have said you were unhappy with your pitch id have happily changed this. We've smoothed out the field with a tractor so pitches are more even.Wetrooms /Showers are of a good size & so individuals & families can use them together & supervise their children. Facilities are not coin operated either which is convenient for our customers.Farmers were seed drilling during your visit & this caused a temporary spike in flies during the extremely hot weather & heatwave a staggering 35deg during May 2026.This is beyond our control .We mitigate this with regular cleaning & fly spraying in the showerblock which is generally effective.

We would absolutely return and hopefully the bin issue is resolved

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We loved the site. How close we was to each other as we went in a group, the people were friendly and wasn’t a far drive to the beach etc

Disliked We arrived on a Thursday and the bins were seriously overflowing and this created a fly problem all over the camp but especially the toilets and showers were absolutely covered. The bins were then emptied and the following days were much more pleasant fly wise!

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very convenient. Toilet block is close, cleaned regularly and stocked up with toilet roll. Farm shop was great. Close to the beach. Lovely lady owner. Amazing views. Smaller site than expected but we actually preferred this. We had amazing weather, which unfortunately brought a bit of a fly problem. But this didn’t bother us. It’s in the country with farm animals near by. Owner did everything she could to help resolve the problem. This could be helped further if people kept the toilet doors closed, rather than leaving it open. I’d rather nice weather and flies, than wasps any day. But maybe something to bear in mind for some campers. Would definitely return. Many thanks

Local attractions

This is a most handy spot for getting out to a couple of North Yorkshire’s most loved seaside towns, so plan for days at the beach and animal park in Filey or taking in the castle, Sea Life Centre and Alpamare waterpark in Scarborough (before hitting the beach again, of course). Both are around a 10-minute drive away. For another view on the coast, grab your binoculars and wander quietly to see what’s in residence at RSPB Bempton Cliffs seabird centre (20 minutes’ drive). Or for some days away from the shoreline, head out to meet the creatures at Playdale Farm Park (10 minutes), sample Yorkshire’s first single malt at Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery (15 minutes) or try out the inflatable course and all manner of watersports at North Yorkshire Water Park (20 minutes). Fancy leaving the car behind for the day? Stash the keys somewhere safe and set forth on foot for Cayton Bay beach, Scarborough Fair Collection & Vintage Transport Museum or a dip at Flower of May swimming pool – all are about 15 minutes away on foot.
