General

  • Peaceful farm with pond and walking paths
  • Farm shop, gift shop, café and furniture for sale
  • Toilet and shower blocks with disabled access

Keep the kids busy at Thorpe Farm Centre near Co. Durham's Barnard Castle... if dipping and nature spotting at the peaceful pond doesn't sway them, seeing the animals in their paddocks or the many walking paths straight from the site surely will.

The farm also has its 18th-century Peel House, home to a gift shop, a café serving breakfast and Sunday lunch, a farm shop selling fresh local produce including bread, milk, bacon, sausages and eggs, and – rather unusual but very fab – a reclamation barn selling furniture, antiques and collectables.

Facilities include toilet and shower blocks with disabled access; fresh water and a chemical disposal unit. Dogs are very welcome but must be kept on leads while on site.

What a gorgeous, clean, and vibrant place. We loved every moment, from the quaint restaurant and shop, to the abundance of beautiful animals and incredibly scenic walks. Covid-19 measures were well under control, and at no point did we feel unsafe or in harms way. I highly recommend Thorpe Farm for a very excited on site stay, as well as a variety of activities close by. Don't miss this chance to have an amazing time outdoors. :)

Has very good facilities and kept warm even over night. Has farm shop and cafe. Also animal rescue place.

    Disliked:

Unfortunately due to weather there were some boggy patches across the field, but luckily where we were pitched ground was ok. Due to the location of the tent pitches being stone throw away from the a road (give or take row of trees in between) traffic noise could affect those who are not heavy sleepers.

Please don't stay here if you are a light sleeper as the touring site is on the A66 and lorries can be heard all night so much so we didn't sleep. We booked for two nights but had to leave after the first night due to this.

The staff and the warden herself are all very friendly.
The campsite shop is small but w well stocked and prices are very reasonable.
The sight is also very dog friendly.

Having not been camping for over 30 years, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. As it happens I was very pleasantly surprised. The park was pristine, and very nicely laid out. Our party included my 8-year-old grandson, and he loved the kid's park facilities. There is also a large grassed area in the centre of the camp, which the youngsters used for a game of football, which fostered something of a community spirit amongst the parents (and grandparents!).
All-in-all an incredibly cheap (considering it was bank holiday/school holidays), and enjoyable stay.

It was a very hot weekend (record breaking in fact!) but fires were allowed and that was a huge bonus as the sun went down.
We visited the shop which was reasonably priced.
    Big pitches
    Friendly Staff

    Disliked:

The showers were cold on a morning but heated up through the day.
It would be better if the park (which is brilliant) was closer to the camp site, it was a long way for the children to walk and we could't see them.
Sunday carvery which could have been warmer but was still enjoyable

The farm is nine miles west of Scotch Corner in the countryside of Teesdale and 15 miles from Richmond in the Yorkshire Dales. Raby Castle, Eggleston Hall, High Force Waterfall (England’s highest, foam fans) and Middleton in Teesdale are also within driving distance.
