  • CAMC members-only pitches a mile from the centre of Church Stretton
  • Ludlow and Shrewsbury half an hour away by train
  • Carp fishing lake on site; lovely views to Caer Caradoc
Fancy waking up to views of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape, then strolling just a couple of minutes to a nearby fishing lake? Members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club (CAMC) can do just that when they stay at New House Farm Certificated Location, just outside the market town of Church Stretton. Pitches here have lovely views of Caer Caradoc; it’s also pretty easy to get out for a hike on this 459-metre hill, since it’s less than half an hour away on foot. When you stay here, you can also schedule plenty of other Shropshire Hills walks or bike rides, including routes around popular spots like the Stiperstones and Carding Mill Valley. And that fishing? Well, that’s at the large lake on site, which is stocked with carp and open to all guests with the relevant licence. For those who aren’t into fishing, the lake provides an attractive backdrop for picnics, dog walks or just hours of waterside daydreaming… Being just on the edge of Church Stretton makes New House Farm a convenient place to be: the centre of town (for shops, pubs and cafés) is about a mile away, and there’s a railway station for outings to places like Ludlow and Shrewsbury (both about half an hour away). Entirely dedicated to touring guests, the site has got lots of handy features, including a wide turning from the road, large hardstanding and grass pitches, portable toilets, showers, and electric and mains water hookups. Kids are welcome, and there are a couple of large parks a few minutes’ walk away where they can have a good run around.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch (members only)

Liked The view of the fishing lake and Caer Caradoc hill in front of you, also it is a nice easy walk into Church Stretton with good food pubs, 25 minutes and you are in the middle of the town and that was a nice easy not rushed walk.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch (members only)

Liked Lovely spot opposite the lake and great views of hills. Easy to find and get to. Lady called to see us later in the afternoon, chatty and helpful.
Hot water in the single shower and clean toilet/basin. Walked into Church Stretton on footpath away from traffic. Good base for other walking.

Disliked Shower and toilet were basic (in a small portacabin) and quite far away from the pitches.

Liked Beautiful view of Caer Caradoc. Lovely site around fishing lake, amazingly quiet considering close proximity to A49.
Lots of walks including less than one mile into Church Stratton.

Disliked Only one shower although wasn't a problem when we visited.

Liked Views, pitch size, fishing lake, walks from the site, walkable distance into Church Stretton

Disliked Nothing really but if I had to say one thing it would be lack of grass next to pitch but that’s only because I’d prefer to site on grass than hard standing

Liked Brilliant setting with view over the lake towards the mountain. Great to have water and EHU on each pitch. Plenty of room on each pitch. Gravel hard standing well prepared. Friendly owners. Lakeside shared with fishermen who were mostly conscious of not imposing themselves on top of others.

Liked Beautiful location, very peaceful with wonderful views. Fishing available all day/night. Owners friendly and welcoming. 5 camper/caravan pitches.
Walks straight from campsite. 1 mile flat walk into Church Stretton where you can find a range of local shops and pubs.
We stayed mid week so found general public fishing quiet, not sure how busy it would be on weekends. We would return.

Disliked 1 cubicle offered toilet and shower facilities. Very basic.

Local attractions

At National Trust – Carding Mill Valley on the Long Mynd (10 minutes’ drive), you can hike on heather-covered hills, taking in splendid, far-reaching views of the Shropshire Hills. If you’re up for a moderately challenging walk, make a beeline for the Lightspout Waterfall, where you might catch a glimpse of red kites hovering in the skies above you. Dominated by a medieval castle that now hosts seasonal events (such as summer concerts), Ludlow (half an hour) has a lively market scene, with regular food and crafts stalls most days, plus occasional days dedicated to local producers or antiques. Grab a quiche or some cheese and cold cuts, and head to Linney Riverside Park for a waterfront picnic. Covered in heather and gorse, the dramatic jagged landscape of Stiperstones National Nature Reserve (35 minutes), near the Welsh border, is home to assorted wildlife – from lizards and frogs to birds of prey and butterflies.
