It's free, quick and easy!
- Coastal resort across 4.5 acres on the edge of Copalis Beach
- Just under an hour's drive from Olympic National Park
- A 10-minute walk to beaches for walks, fishing and razor clam digging
Drawn here by the word dunes? You’ll surely not be disappointed by the result… as the name suggests, Pacific Dunes Resort is in a prime location right there on the central Washington state coast, just on the edge of the little town of Copalis Beach.
It’s all about the outdoor life at this splendid park, which has a generous 4.5 acres of space to its name and is a 10-minute walk from the lengthy Copalis beach itself. And that means the easiest of easy access to such things as fishing, digging for razor clams and simple seaside strolls… and a fresh coastal breeze wherever you choose to wander around the resort.
Seeking even more open space? With a drive of just under an hour you can swap the sea views for mountain views and wildlife spotting on hikes or scenic drives in the Olympic National Park.
Back down at your coastal base, there’s plenty of space for quiet time around the park should you want it; if you’re craving a bit more human company wander over to the clubhouse, which sometimes stages live entertainment, or take the 10-minute walk into town to find the local bar and grill.

Local attractions
Once you’ve sat and stared at the sea for a little while (or perhaps been out and gathered enough razor clams for a good seafood feast), it’s time to explore what the rest of this stretch of coastline has to offer…
If you’re a golfer, you won’t want to miss the chance to tee off at Ocean Shores Golf Course (15 minutes’ drive away); if you’re more into the wildlife, head to the Coastal Interpretive Center (20 minutes) to learn a bit about what you’re looking for before you take your binoculars to Griffiths Priday State Park (15 minutes’ walk) or Grays Harbor National Refuge (half an hour’s drive).
Naturally there’s also lots of wildlife to find up at Olympic National Park (55 minutes); the easiest place to aim for from Pacific Dunes is Quinault, where you can pick up tours and trail guides to hike by the lake, find waterfalls or explore the lush green rainforest.
Time to retreat inside for a while? Quinault Beach Casino is just 10 minutes away by car – who knows, if you get lucky you might be able to afford to settle by the seaside for a bit longer…
