Seeking stunning scenery, spectacular mountain views and somewhere welcoming for canine pals? Clamber into the RV and make haste for Aspen Grove RV Park, a family-friendly, dog-friendly (and big rig-friendly) campground in the northern Utah town of Tremonton.
The park’s close to I-15 and I-84 so it’s well placed for overnight pitstops on longer journeys, but there’s loads to do nearby if a lengthier stay appeals: close at hand are the Box Elder County Fairgrounds (for horse shows, truck rallies and the County Fair), a nine-hole golf course and Crystal Hot Springs waterpark, and there are loads of outdoor trails and biking routes for the energetic traveller too.
If Rex is along for the ride, a stop here will also be a great chance to burn off some doggy energy – there’s a dog run in the park, so let pooch stretch those legs after long hours in the RV while human guests turn to cornhole, horseshoes and pickleball for a break, or mooch around the small retail store for supplies and souvenirs.
Keeping well fed is simple here too. There are plenty of local eateries in Tremonton and a more frugal approach is easy with on-site shared kitchen facilities – there’s even a workout area if the old adage ‘there are no calories on hols’ doesn’t seem to be holding true anymore.

Local attractions
Anyone angling for a day (or two) with rod and reel is particularly well served hereabouts: the banks of Bear River are about five minutes’ drive from base if catfish, bullhead, Asian carp, walleye or largemouth bass are on the to-catch list, and Bear Lake is a little under an hour and a half away if landing trout is what floats the boat.
For less hands-on encounters with local wildlife, a trip to the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is a must – hunting and fishing are allowed here (with the proper licences of course), but birdwatchers will be flying highest after days spying out pelicans, swans, plovers and teals.
Hikes and drives through fab scenery are within easy reach at Logan Canyon (30 minutes) – a top spot for snowmobiling and skiing during colder months – and bikers can follow the Eagle Rise Trail in nearby Brigham City. Even sweeter times can be had in Brigham with a drive along Utah’s Famous Fruit Way if time behind the wheel gets motors running.
Craving a bit more urban life than Tremonton has to offer? Make the hour-and-10-minute journey to Salt Lake City and explore the Red Butte botanic gardens, Utah’s Hogle Zoo, the Clark Planetarium, and the headquarters of the Church of the Latter-day Saints at Temple Square.
