Apache Junction in Arizona is a short 40-mile drive east of Phoenix, in the foothills of the imposing Superstition Mountains. Apache Junction has lures gold seekers from around the world with mines such as the The Lost Dutchman Mine now an iconic symbol of the area. The town was also a former important movie set where Robert Taylor and Ronald Reagan (the former president) starred. Charro starring Elvis Presley was also shot here. It has now become a popular tourist destination with a number of shops and restaurants. Apache Junction is also famous for the Apache Trail and the most scenic drives in Arizona. For over 100 years, people have flocked to the area in search of their own piece of El Dorado. There are many other hiking and biking trails, around the Superstition Mountains, many suitable for horse riding. Silly Mountain Park is ideal for light walks and beautiful views whilst the Lost Dutchman State Park is a great place for hiking and wildlife watching. If you fancy something different, Canyon Lake is a desert oasis with soaring cliffs and many recreational activities including boating.
