It's free, quick and easy!
- Dog-friendly timberland park next to Savage Gulf State Natural Area
- Half a mile from a trailhead with walks to four different waterfalls
- Camp kitchen and camp store on site; barbecue or fire ring allowed
Go on and treat yourself to a wilderness retreat in Tennessee… Greeter Falls Campground is all about ditching the clamour and the clutter of the towns and cities and coming out feeling renewed and refreshed. It’s certainly the place to do so, given that the retreat is less than half a mile from the Greeter Falls Trailhead and adjacent to the 16,000-acre Savage Gulf State Natural Area, which has over 50 miles of well-marked trails for all abilities.
This is a timberland escape that’s sparsely inhabited and dog-friendly. There are only three sites per acre, meaning that you shouldn’t feel at all crammed. The activity centre runs a number of activities and there are facilities including a bathhouse.
When you’re ready to live your own waterfall fantasy, just set off on the circular trail to visit four waterfalls and cool off in the West Blue Hole swimming area. The loop is less than a mile long, but there are many more trails and a dozen waterfalls throughout the Savage Gulf for you to get out towards.
There’s a small camp store on site, but if you’re looking for some more niche bits for barbecue or fire ring, Altamont (five minutes’ drive) has a supermarket (or a restaurant, if you want to eat out).
