- Single wild camping site in a four-acre private forest
- A 15-minute drive to Ithaca, NY; several Finger Lakes close by
- Portable toilet provided, plus fire ring and benches
Had enough of other people? Fancy some time well away from them, in your own private rural space? You need to have a good look at Harvey Hill Camp, where a private campsite has been cleared in a four-acre forest for the use of one group only.
Yes, that space is yours to do with (almost) as you wish: breathe the fresh air, appreciate the complete quiet, let your mind relax… and you can cast off your clothes too if you wish, as there’s no one else around to see you.
To protect the ecosystem and give guests a true ‘back-to-nature’ experience, this is very much a wild camping setup. You’ll have a portable toilet and a private changing/shower blind to make life a little more comfortable, but don’t expect running water or electricity here. It’s also a carry-in/carry-out site so you’ll be expected to take all your trash away with you.
Living in the woods means there’s plenty of firewood around to help you build a campfire; a fire ring is provided for that, with simple benches around it so you won't have to squat on the forest floor. You’re also welcome to hang a hammock in the trees if you wish – that makes a great way to hang out for a while, reading a book or watching out for the birds and deer that pass by.
You may well think all of this is right out in the middle of nowhere – but despite that feeling of seclusion, this location is only 15 minutes’ drive from Ithaca, a handy place for shops, meals and attractions. It’s also easy to get out to the nearby state parks and most of the area’s fabulous ‘Finger Lakes’.
