- Peaceful 50-acre wooded resort 10 minutes' drive from Bucyrus
- An hour's drive from Cedar Point and Columbus Zoo
- Lake beach on site for swimming and fishing, plus lots of activities
A beach in central Ohio – what a rare treat. And it’s right there in the middle of the park for the lucky folks staying at Sunset Springs RV Resort.
Yes indeed, not only does this friendly Crawford County resort have nearly 50 acres of peaceful woodland around its spacious sites, it’s also home to Buckeye Beach – open between Memorial Day and Labor Day for access to a whopping 20,000 square feet of sand fronting the six-acre Quarry Lake. This is a tiptop spot for days of sandy games, swimming, ziplining and watching the kids scramble to the top of the youth rock walls. There’s a seasonal concession stand down at the beach too, for an easy fix to any hunger pangs, and a playground and basketball court nearby.
If you like your lakeside life a little more leisurely, bring your fishing kit and settle by the lake for hefty largemouth, at the smaller fishing pond for bluegill, or by the stream for huge catfish. Keep your eyes open here for all sorts of visiting wildlife too: deer, turtles, bald eagles and crayfish are among the critters you may encounter.
A busy programme of activities runs throughout the season for guests of all ages, and there’s plenty to keep you amused locally, including the excellent Cedar Point amusement park and Columbus Zoo. Upper Sandusky and Bucyrus are within 15 minutes’ drive for restaurants and shops, and there’s a small shop on site for firewood, ice and live bait.

Local attractions
If you’ve not done too well spotting wildlife at the resort itself, you’ll no doubt do better with guaranteed animal sightings at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, an hour’s drive away, or at the Ohio Bird Sanctuary, half an hour away.
A trip into Bucyrus is a fine idea for folks who like their food – the town is famed for its bratwurst restaurants and festival (a legacy of its German heritage), and you can also take tours of a dairy farm and the excellent Cooper’s Cider Mill. Head a little out of town and you can take in a couple of winery tours within a 20-minute drive.
For a taste of a simpler life, it’ll take you around an hour and a quarter to drive to the centre of Ohio’s Amish Country (try Millersburg or Shrock’s Amish Farm). If, on the other hand, you want a real adrenaline rush, it’s a drive of around an hour to the rollercoasters and waterpark at Cedar Point.
