  • Peaceful and pretty site in the Swiss Alps, close to riverside trails
  • Within half an hour's drive of several thermal baths/spas
  • Restaurant with a terrace, play area and a pétanque court on site
Just simply spectacular... As you may have figured out from the pictures, Camping Simplonblick is a scenic and spacious place, made up of green grounds, colourful flowers and facilities that will keep you occupied from morning to night. Set just off the main road in Raron in Upper Valais, it's easily accessible by car, motorcycle or public transport and a central base for making day trips to popular Valais attractions. This is a self-check-in site with no staffed reception, so upon your arrival, you get to pick your own pitch. You may fancy cooling off in the pool (open during high season only) or heading over to the table tennis tables, pétanque court, play area or trampoline. After you're done with your activities, you may want to unwind at the on-site restaurant, which has a roomy terrace. The site has many modern and well-kept amenities and services: it's so clued up that it even has its own gas station. Surroundings await for active and scenic times too: it's minutes away from hiking trails around the Rhône river and five minutes' walk away from the cable car to the ski stations of Eischoll and Unterbäch, and within driving distance of toboggan rides, glaciers, the Matterhorn and the world's highest revolving restaurant. To add to that, there are several thermal baths/spas within half an hour's drive of the site.

What customers say

Guests love the stunning mountain views and super clean, modern restrooms. Spacious spots and a great location for exploring are big pluses. Some found traffic noise and a lack of privacy an issue. Self-check-in is efficient, though a bit impersonal. Better Wi-Fi and clearer waste signs are on the wish list.

Lovelt swimming pool

Disliked No body was at the campsite to advise where to park or any other queries.
Had 3 other motorhomes arrive after us and was confused what electric power socket to use

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Enrico
Thank you for your review.
Everybody gets an email on the arrival day where everything is explained. the same explanation is to be found at the entrance of the campsite.
Our campsite is run as a staff-free campsite with self-check-in and self-check-out. As far as the electric power sockets: every pitch has a socket.
In high season there is a member of staff on site, but only in the morning and in the evening when most people leave and arrive.
People without a reservation should read the information before they enter the campsite;-)
We would love to welcome you again.
Kind regards

Liked Loved the location, train station 5 mins Cable cars five mins. Train into Visp up to Zermatt was amazing. Great stop off location between France and Italy. Would definitely stay again. Self check in was odd but worked for us.

Disliked Bins had to be by special use bags to be paid for, hook up connection special type had to be rented. All from office at different campsite 10 mins walk away. But didn’t spoil the stay. Weather changed fast and wind comes down through the mountains but that is to be expected.

Liked Clean modern toilet, shower and washing facilities with free showers. Always clean. Despite looking too crowded on our first day of arrival, when it emptied out the campsite was spacious, but smaller pitches. The pool was a big hit along with the restaurant! With two shower and toilets also lots of options if busy.

Disliked The washing machine was temperamental and kept locking so we had to add more money to open the doors and get water out. This really needs amending as we were not the only ones who had this issue.

There was no privacy between pitches, and a little small.

The WiFi doesn’t reach the pitches but it did us an excuse to go to the brilliant Italian restaurant.

From the manager: Dear Joanne
Thank you very much for your kind review.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us.
The issue with the washing machine will be cleared with the company that runs them (not our machines).
We would love to welcome you again someday.

Liked Well spaced pitches
Food was good and reasonably priced
New shower block and toilets were immaculate

Disliked Electric hook up we had was an extension from another pitch which vehicles were driving over
No reception was a bit frustrating because there was no guidance to where to park. Could do with some staff at least in the morning and late afternoon just to make sure people welcome and guide them to a pitch because it was a bit of a free for all
Some of the staff were very obnoxious in the restaurant

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Colin
Thank you very much for the nice and detailed review. Regarding staff on the campsite, we do have staff there in the morning and evening in high season, just for this cause and also to lend the adapters. Since this is a self checkin and checkout campsite, where you can pick your own pitch it is clear, that there will be no one to welcome you on the campsite. That is not our concept.
Regarding the restaurant: unfortunately it is not our staff, the restaurant is rub externally.
We would love to welcome you again.
Kind regards

Local attractions

Raron's locale is under an hour from the mountain resorts of the Upper Valais, from Aletschgebiet to Zermatt under the Matterhorn peak. You can travel over the border to Italy or to other Swiss cantons via mountain passes and spectacular views: particularly recommended by the site team are the Simplon Pass, connecting Brig in Valais with Domodossola in Italy's Piedmont, and the Furka Pass, linking Andermatt in Uri with Gletsch in Valais. Another tiptop option is a trip to the Aletsch Glacier, the biggest glacier in the Alps and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Jungfrau-Aletsch. To visit a glacier from the inside, have a day at the Ice Pavillion of Saas-Fee, next to the world's highest revolving restaurant. A 70-metre long tunnel leads into the ice of the glacier, which can be reached via a subterranean cable car.
