  • Small friendly Galicia site 10 minutes’ drive from Cathedral beach
  • Half an hour’s walk from Praia dos Castros, accessible at low tide
  • Café, playground, pool, ping pong table and barbecues on site
The project that eventually became Camping Rinlocosta began with a couple of campers who decided that their ultimate dream was to make their hobby their way of life. Several years after they first dreamed up the idea – and plenty of paperwork and regulations later – they cut the ribbon on Camping Rinlocosta in 2017. That means this is a place for campers – designed by campers. The owners thought long and hard about what makes a campsite special, and decided to keep it purposefully small in size at 5000 square metres to create a friendly vibe. A café, playground, swimming pool and ping pong table have been provided, along with plenty of practical amenities in the form of bathrooms, laundry areas, sinks and an area for emptying water. The A Mariña Lucense region and Western Asturias are big on the foodie scene, and it’s no different on site; guests can sort their own tasty churrascada (grilled meat, for those who aren’t familiar) at the three barbecues between the park and the pool. The local town, Rinlo – which gave the site its name – is only 10 minutes’ walk away and has a small selection of restaurants. Praia dos Castros, a gorgeous sandy cove accessible at low tide, is half an hour’s walk away. However, the biggest name around this area by far is Cathedral beach, 10 minutes’ drive away. Guests are provided with a pass from reception to visit Cathedral beach any day they want, should they want to explore around the vault-like rock formations.

Power optional grass campsite (comfort)

Liked Lovely rural campsite with friendly helpful staff. Level pitches and spotlessly clean facilities. The swimming pool was very small, but ideal for young children. We enjoyed our zorza meal in the campsite restaurant washed down with a nice bottle of rioja. Lovely local beaches to explore only a few kms away.

Disliked The disabled shower could have done with a handrail, and the motorhome emptying facilities could be a bit bigger, but other than that site was perfect.

Local attractions

Beaches are a big part of this stunning area of Spain and may well fill much of your time, but if you’re looking for something a bit different, Mills Museum Mazonovo (40 minutes’ drive) may well fit the bill nicely. This open-air museum about Spain’s technological evolution is centred around a collection of working water mills. Hunting down a beach is always splendid, but Santo Estevo do Ermo (25 minutes) will get you hunting down an impressive waterfall instead, on a walk that takes you through woods of oak, chestnut and birch trees. A dip is optional (but, of course, recommended). The nearby town of Ribadeo (15 minutes) is also nicely handy for the days where you simply want to pootle around admiring buildings like the Torre dos Moreno (15 minutes) or tucking into tapas on a terrace.
