It's free, quick and easy!
- In the Lugo mountains, 15 minutes' walk from A Fonsagrada
- Easy access to 12 hiking trails from the town centre
- Traditional homemade food with site's own fresh vegetables
A lovely location in the Lugo mountains, with gorgeous Galicia views all around and easy access to heaps of scenic hikes – how could this Spanish scenario get any better? Well, perhaps with a little town just 15 minutes’ stroll away, for equally easy access to restaurants, bars, banks, bakeries, a supermarket…
Sound like a splendid setup? Then set a course for fab Camping A Fonsagrada, a peaceful place a kilometre from A Fonsagrada’s town centre. Friendly staff here are more than happy to point first-timers in the direction of all the best bits in the local area, handing out hiking tips both for leisure strolls and more challenging trails.
In between rambles kick back for a little while, relaxing in the shade of the trees, taking a swim in the outdoor pool or just settling down on its surrounding sun terrace to read your book (or, more likely, gaze out over the rather distracting views). Dogs are welcome to come along for the ride and have a run around on site; humans who need a little extra exercise can work out in the gym.
And it’s not just the views that are gorgeous here – if you don’t fancy the walk into town, stick around to feast on tasty plates of traditional food at the restaurant, where dishes are inspired by what’s looking good in the veg garden.

Local attractions
Make sure to pack your walking boots – they may well see plenty of use round these parts. The surrounds are part of the Río Eo, Oscos e Terras de Bourón biosphere reserve, and a generous 12 hiking trails are marked out from A Fonsagrada to show you some local hotspots.
If you’re willing to have a short drive, locals tip the nod to the woodland walk that leads to Seimeira de Vilagocende waterfall, the highest in all of Galicia and around 20 minutes’ drive away. Folks who like to fish will want to stash their kit in the car for a trip to the Eo river; ask the friendly folks on site to direct you to a little network of walkways that allows you to cast off from the middle of the river.
Feel the urge for a bit of urban time? Make tracks to Lugo, an hour away, to wander around the Roman walls, visit the cathedral and meanders through its streets, taking in a whole mix of historic architecture along the way. If all the hiking’s left you a little stiff, soothe those muscles at the spa a kilometre out of town – it’s been there since Roman days, so it must be doing something right.
