Welcoming guests since 1986 and run by a British-Spanish family, Camping Alegría del Mar in Castellon is a friendly place with plenty of facilities to entertain guests. The seaside park runs dance, live music and flamenco shows, as well as activities like bingo, barbecue nights and pétanque tournaments – but if you prefer to stay still and bask, the nearest beach is just 50 metres away and can be accessed directly from the site. A long stay then? Good idea. Food is sorted at the Camping Alegría del Mar bar-restaurant and terrace, which cooks up a decent range of international foods like paellas, tapas, sandwiches, pizzas and burgers. The site is in Benicarló, within 20 minutes' walk of grocery shops and plenty of other restaurants. If you're wondering what else there is to do in the locale aside from beaches, the Serra d'Irta Natural Park and Castell de Santa Magdalena de Polpís are only half an hour's drive away. Serra del Montsià, a mountain range with gorgeous hikes, is a 35-minute drive in the other direction.

Highly rated campground with super friendly staff. Guests loved the clean facilities, spacious, shaded sites, and great on-site bar/restaurant with entertainment. Beach nearby is a plus, though stony. Minor issues: roaming cats, small adult pool. Many want to return!

Liked Private pitches with shade, direct access to the beach and the town a short walk away, good bar and restaurant, it was good to have some entertainment, karaoke was good fun

Disliked Pool slightly small and aimed at children, toilet blocks a little dated and the step coming out needs highlighted

Liked Friendly welcome and general staff attitude. Shower blocks and toilets were clean and fresh all the time.

Disliked Campers letting their cats roam and getting in our trash bags before we could dispose of them.

Liked Very friendly staff English owed pitches spacious nothing too much trouble.
Restaurant open from 9.0am until 11pm at night bar open until midnight with entertainment some evenings.Staff will open another gate for easy access with tourers that are large like mine towing with 4x4 as weaving through side can be tight so ask at reception and stay on road.

Liked Friendly Helpful Staff and owners, Good size pitches, Good location, Regular Buses to peniscola/ Vinaros , Nice Bar on site and bars local to site. Toilets / Showers very clean,Will be back next year Thankyou to All.

After your week on the beach, browse the highly impressive architecture of Benicarló's historic quarter, about a kilometre and a half away: look out for the Baroque façade of the Parròquia Sant Bartomeu. The town of Peñiscola, surrounded by water on every side and one of the most popular tourist resorts in Castellón, is an easy six kilometres from Camping Alegría del Mar. It's known as 'the city in the sea' and one of Spain's most attractive towns – and did you know it was a filming location for Game of Thrones? Go. The Knights Templar Peñiscola Castle is the main sight to see in Peñiscola; afterwards, stretch out on the sands, walk the town's cobbled streets or visit the Peñiscola Sea Museum.
