  • Quiet and calm park in Altea on Spain’s Costa Blanca
  • Theme parks, waterparks and aquarium 11km away in Benidorm
  • 200 metres walk on a footpath to a peaceful pebbly beach
A quiet, calm and accommodating resort on Spain’s Costa Blanca, Camping Santa Clara is in a rural locale, close to the village of Altea and 11 kilometres from Benidorm. Founded by the Rojas family in 1961, the park prides itself on stellar customer service, in a peaceful setting a short stroll via a wild local footpath to a quiet pebbly beach. There’s no bar or evening entertainment here either: this is a place where you can relax instead to the sound of cicadas. Guests are welcome to use the communal microwave when they want a quick fodder fix, the coffee machine for morning refreshment, and a soft-drink vending machine is on hand too for cold drinks throughout the day. Should you require any small items during your stay, head to reception for a stock of basic provisions; for anything outside of this, Altea’s shops, bars and restaurants are under 10 minutes' walk away behind the town’s marina and yacht club. Also handily, reception is where you can go to have a natter with the site’s friendly staff about their hot tips on places to go around the locale. The site’s amenities include separate ladies’ and gents’ bathroom facilities, often lauded by previous guests as being properly spotless.

Power optional gravel campsite

Liked: Sweet, family run site with character. Great location, nice views.

Disliked: The site is small and tucked away with narrow entry and exit, and tight corners. We are 6m long and I found it nerve wracking. The staff will help you in and out. The site needs a tidy up, junk dumped in places. Bring a bucket to dispose of your grey waste.

Power optional gravel campsite

Liked: Nice and Restful, showers and toilets a little dated but very clean, welcomed by the owners husband, showed us everything. Wifi is excellent, not sure about ehu, as we have solar energy. There's an oven and microwave, BBQ site with wood cold drinks available and coffee machine.

Disliked: Nothing

Power optional gravel campsite

Liked: Camping Santa Clara. Very enjoyable visit for 7 nights. Site is old fashioned but quaint. Our pitch was rather small and site entry is a bit testing, but the location made up for it. Only 5 min walk through a little path to the promenade. Enjoyed walking to Altea and visited the church on the hill. At Albir we visited the nature reserve and the walk to the light house has spectacular views.

Disliked: Pitch allocated not large enough to erect our awning.

Juan GR

Local attractions

The site’s local town of Altea has over six kilometres of coastline alternating between cliffs, small coves and long stretches of flat beach. The town also has a fishing port and a marina and yacht club, with a promenade nearby for strolls from the port almost right out to Cap Negret three kilometres away. Around Altea’s marina lie lots of shops, little eateries, bars and restaurants, many of which provide sunny terraces on which to sit and sip drinks on. The town’s market is also a popular spot for bargain hunters, and the Old Town rewards those who fancy climbing up to it with spectacular sea views. For active days out, you can get stuck into a good range of watery sports from various spots nearby, from diving excursions to sailing courses, paddleboarding and kayaking, plus paddle pilates and yoga sessions; alternatively, you can go solo and rent a boat to explore the surrounding Costa Blanca coastline from the high seas. If you’re fond of bathing sans swimming togs, then Solsida nudist beach – the only of its kind in the area – lies nine kilometres north along the coast. Another postcardworthy spot is Albir’s lighthouse and museum, less than five kilometres away among the Sierra Helada Natural Park, where there’s also a six-kilometre coastal walk to tramp.
