The area around the site is a popular mountain spot in southern Catalonia and Tarragona, among the rocky peaks of the Serra de la Llena, the Serra de Montsant and the Prades mountains. Those in the know trek along here to hike, mountain bike or tackle rock climbing… or use it as a base to explore the heady expanse of the Serra de Montsant Natural Park, a protected area covering over 9,000 hectares. Too much activity? The Montsant mountains are hugely famed for their vineyards too: yes, this is the source of Montsant red wine…
Camping Montsant Park is a laidback and peaceful park, just under a kilometre from the Catalonian village of Ulldemolins, and within an hour of Tarragona, Lleida and Reus. It has excellent facilities for days around its scenic grounds: there's a seasonal pool for hot summer days, a playground for energised kids on any days, and miniature golf, a sports court and a pétanque court for active afternoons.
Delve fully into this mountainous area too with a full investigation of the site bar-restaurant, where there's homemade cuisine prepped with fresh local and regional products; takeaway food including pizza; a terrace to take in the mountain views, and – cheers – an extensive wine list with plenty of examples of that Montsant red wine.

Cultural adventurers have a UNESCO World Heritage Site within easy day trip distance: the Poblet Monastery or Royal Abbey of Santa Maria de Poblet (35 minutes' drive), spectacularly set at the foot of the Prades mountains and one of the biggest Cistercian monasteries in Spain. Another ye olde option around the same distance from Camping Montsant Park is the monastery of Scala Dei, the first Carthusian monastery on the Iberian peninsula and these days a must-see.
Adventures of a different sort can be had at PortAventura World, 55 minutes' drive south on the coast just outside Tarragona: with two theme parks, a waterpark and shows and events aplenty, this one should keep you merrily occupied for quite some time.
