With that in mind, here’s WeCamp Cala Montgó, a friendly site just outside L'Escala that's set up for relaxing in the open air. Within an easy 500-metre walk of two different beaches and with a spacious outdoor pool of its own, this top-tier Catalan site scores extra points for its wide range of activities to keep the kids entertained while grownup guests kick back for a few hours… There's a truly impressive range of leisure facilities on offer here, with family-friendly on-site pursuits like miniature golf plus a play area, multisport pitch and seasonal kids' club. On top of that, there's more than 1,200 square metres of wildlife-packed pine forest to play in and a dedicated kids' pool. For further inspiration and advice on what to get up to away from base, get chatting to the friendly staff at reception for the low-down on where to windsurf, sail, snorkel or scuba dive in Montgó and further afield on the Costa Brava. For eats and drinks, this site comes with a restaurant, bar and a well-stocked grocery shop. Great location near the beach and shady pines. Staff are friendly, facilities (pool!) clean. Some pitches are small/sloped, some guests found sanitary blocks dirty, especially in peak season, and toilet paper was often missing. Campsite is split by a road.

Liked Grande piscine très belle , être dans la forêt , le calme, près de la mer, des commerces et restaurants , sanitaires propres, personnel agréable très beau et grand camping, le wifi gratuit, electrecite 16 ampères

Disliked Problèmes pour remplissage eau du camping car , et certains emplacements attention avec capucine ça touche les branches, et pas évidents pour les eaux usées, un peu cher le chien et l électricité

Liked Location is excellent, close to small town & beach. Good size pitches & toilet dated but clean. Had a great 2 nights stay, would have been happy to stay longer.

Liked The staff were so welcoming and friendly
The facilities were clean, spacious and easy to access/use
Our pitch was level, and a great size
The location was paradise; a beautiful pine forest a short and scenic stroll to a stunning beach
The onsite pool was great. This too was super-clean, with a great layout it and a good selection of chairs and sun loungers
The onsite shop was reasonably priced and well stocked
The onsite restaurant was great quality, with an impressive menu and value for money
L’Escala town is a short walk away too, with a great beach and a good variety of shops and restaurants

Disliked Nothing. We are waiting for next year’s bookings to open up - as soon as they do we will be securing our return trip.

Liked Mare a due passi veramente bellissimo, piscina stupenda, bagni sempre puliti e pineta davvero bella. Supermercato fornito e aperto fino a tardi!

Disliked Per chi come noi soggiorna con camper un po’ scomodo il fatto di non avere servizi di trasporto per arrivare al paesino . C’è un trenino …che fa spola dal paese al campeggio ma…forse questo aspetto andrebbe migliorato. Noi abbiamo risposto con le biciclette ma se non elettriche (come noi) gambe in spalla!!

Disliked Les emplacements qui manque d intimité, la difficulté à se mettre droit à cause du terrain en pente .les sanitaire un peu vétuste mais propre

Local attractions

Within a kilometre from base, guests have access to part of Montgrí natural park (five minutes' walk), a well-preserved stretch of coastline full of wildlife. There's also Cala Montgó (five minutes' walk), an impressively round cove with clear turquoise waters that's nicely sheltered from the north wind. Sticking to the L'Escala area, you'll also come across attractions like watersports clubs, boat hire spots and a small museum about the area's anchovies (all within a five-minute drive). A few kilometres up the coast, Empúries (10 minutes) has a spacious sandy beach that's popular with families, plus a well-preserved open-air archeology museum where you can learn about the area's ancient Roman heritage. For more of the past, make for Torroella de Montgrí (25 minutes) and its imposing medieval castle, or check out the Arab baths and Gothic cathedral in Girona (50 minutes). Art fans have lots of choices too, with Figueres' must-see Dalí museum (30 minutes) coming top of many visitors’ itineraries. You might also like to head out to Cadaqués on the Cap de Creus peninsula (an hour), where Dalí and many other artists have lived, worked and played over the years.
