  • Beachside site in Canet de Mar, about an hour's drive from Barcelona
  • Facilities improved every year before reopening
  • Two pools, bar terrace and restaurant serving homemade food
There's not just a fab pool (and a paddling pool) at this smashing site a short drive from Barcelona. The watery bodies of Camping Globo Barcelona in Canet de Mar are the setting for a good chunk of the lively programme of entertainment in the summer months, where you can glide along the water gracefully (or not) at an aqua gym session, take a swimming lesson, get stuck into the water games, or have a moonlight dip at one of the organised night swims. Both pools are fully lifeguarded. Out of the water, there's so much to do too that you mightn't get to Canet de Mar's beach for a few days after arrival, even though it's right in front of the site… A full programme of no-pool activities for adults and kids runs from mid-June until mid-September; there are modern sports courts for basketball, football, tennis, ping pong and pétanque, and the site has stacks of space so you can wander off and find your own peaceful place under the trees. The flat, sandy and mighty scenic local beach is in front of the site, 100 metres away. However. Whichever environment you pick for your on-site activities, the Globo Barcelona restaurant is a must. Set in the centre of the grounds in a 19th-century Catalan farmhouse, this is the place to sample a wide variety of Golbo Barcelona's Mediterranean menu, including pizzas and pasta, meat and fish dishes, paellas and fideuas, all homemade with local products and carefully sourced ingredients. And afterwards? A bar terrace is here too, for lazy summer evenings over a cocktail. Organic and healthy products from a Catalan organic farm are on sale in the well-stocked shop, along with general groceries, fresh bread and croissants from the local baker, newspapers, camping gas, charcoal, and beach bits and bobs such as towels, water inflatables and sunshades. For the essentials, there are three amenities blocks close to the camping areas; two washing-up spaces and a laundry room. The site team wants guests to have as comfy and modern facilities as possible, so invests in improving them every year before reopening for the season.

What customers say

This is a very clean, well-kept campsite with friendly, helpful staff. Guests loved the pools, spotless facilities (showers included), and on-site restaurant. Pitches are spacious and shaded. Great for beach access and trips to Barcelona. A few found beach access tricky, and restaurant prices a bit steep. Highly recommended for adults and families.

Liked Staff very friendly and helpful, the site is immaculately clean, and throughout our stay the staff was always working to keep site to a high standard. The restaurants food was excellent and the pool was a really nice place to chill with the pool attendant always working hard and very polite. The beach access is just across the road, free sun-beds and sun shades. Definitely would come back here.

Liked The site is well run, clean and well equipped. The pitches are large and nicely laid out. The staff are friendly and informative. The pool is lovely.

Disliked The beach is not easy to access, as it’s across the road and through a dodgy looking building. Once there, no bars or restaurants are available. It’s just a very long beach with nothing on it. The town is near but mainly uninspiring.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed our facilities and the welcoming from our staff.

We apologize for not providing a clear explanation of how to get to our private beach access, we will work to improve this for future guests. As for the lack of bars and restaurants, since it’s mid October and we’re close to the end of our season, our beach bar is closed, so the area may feel quieter than usual. However, we still provide sunbeds and umbrellas free of charge for our guests at the beach.

We are always looking for ways to improve our guests' experience. We hope to welcome you back soon.

Local attractions

This lovely Catalonian site is in the small Maresme seaside resort of Canet de Mar, one of several along this part of coast between the sea and mountains. Canet is an arty town, famed for its Catalan art nouveau architecture and its sculptures. A modernist art trail through town passes the arty highlights of Canet, stopping off at the Lluís Domènech i Montaner House-Museum, covering the life and works of the local architect. The family-friendly beach in front of the site is flat and sandy with clear waters, and is patrolled by lifeguards during the summer. Several other beaches of all types are nearby, from fine or coarse sands to rocky expanses and big coves; for those who have a horror of returning home with tan lines, a nudist beach is 300 metres away. Also along this spectacular part of Spanish coast, you could have a day on the fab beach of Blanes, or make it a more watery hol with some time on the waterslides and chutes of Water World in Lloret de Mar. Heading inland, the Montnegre and Corredor Natural Park, the Catalan Coastal Range and the Serralada de Marina Natural Park are all within driving distance for outdoorsy days.
