  • Peaceful family site on the banks of the Tormes river
  • Under six kilometres from the ancient city of Salamanca
  • Pools, indoor play, car wash and restaurant for guests and locals
There’s lots to like about the Castile and Leon site of Camping Don Quijote, but you might care to focus on the most important first – the restaurant here is rather special. Open to guests and locals alike – always a good sign – this stellar spot is great for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a good drink. There’s an extensive wine list, as well as a menu for kids and special dishes throughout the year… all to work through indoors or out on the renovated terrace, or to take away to have by your berth. All that, and dogs are allowed too. The setting of the site is worth a postcard home too: Camping Don Quijote is on the banks of the Tormes river, only 15 minutes’ drive from the splendid old city of Salamanca, and about 20 minutes’ walk (a kilometre and a half) from local village Cabrerizos. And on site? There are pools for grownups and tiddlers, a multigames zone for indoor play, and a soccer field for kicking a ball about. The completely overhauled amenities include separate toilets for ladies, gents and guests with reduced mobility, hot water 24 hours a day, baby bathtubs and changing tables, and a laundry area with dishwashing sinks; the site also has a car wash. And one more, most excellent, aspect of that Camping Don Quijote restaurant? Let the staff know if you’re celebrating something and they’ll make your night go with an extra zing.

What customers say

Great campsite, spacious shaded spots, super friendly staff. Praised for its excellent restaurant, pool, and riverside location for easy walks/rides to Salamanca. Clean facilities, highly recommended with many wanting to return. Minor points: Wi-Fi can be spotty, can get busy.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer or trailer tent campsite

Liked Friendly staff. Situation - 15 minute walk then easy bus ride into town. Salamanca is a wonderful city
The restaurant isn’t as good as previous visits.

Disliked The toilet/shower facilities, although very clean, are inadequate and elderly.
Avoid pitches under the trees, the magpies will cover your van in poo - also very shady.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campervan campsite

Liked Great place for a stop over. Good sized pitch. Easy to find. Good facilities. On site restaurant and bar are tricky. Book early or arrive later they don’t let you in just for beer at the bar. Must be a table and if none are free your out!!

Disliked Restaurant entry criteria. Table seating only and no bar area Poor

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer or trailer tent campsite

Liked Generous pitch, friendly staff, good facilities, exceptional restaurant, best meal for a long time (need to book). Great river walk next to the campsite, could walk all the way into Salamanca.

Disliked Only 2 washing machines for a large campsite and shame the pool was closed considering the weather was lovely.

Madera cottage / chalet / bungalow

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer or trailer tent campsite

Liked Spacious pitches, plenty of shade. Good showers, clean toilets. Camping situated very close to Salamanca, bus to city centre nearby. Lovely walk along river bank. Nice pool. Good restaurant and bar.

Disliked Very hard ground, almost impossible to set up an awning.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked Everything, in fact we stayed an additional 2 days. Great walk just by the campsite along the river, with benches for picnics. A small beach nearby too. Close to Salamanca city without too much walking. Loved it

Disliked Nothing to dislike about this place

Local attractions

Salamanca, of course… drive or cycle from Camping Don Quijote to this spectacular city, a university town, UNESCO World Heritage Site and former European Capital of Culture. Where to start? The Don Quijote team recommends just getting lost among the city streets; every corner, they say, is worth it, and at any time of year too. If you prefer your sightseeing time to be more itinerary-based, make first for Plaza Mayor, often called the most beautiful central plaza in the country, and stay until dark to see the baroque architecture light up. And then? Other Salamanca sightseeing options (there are many) include taking one of the four routes around the city, pottering around the Casa Lis Art Nouveau and Art Deco museum, having a look at the Escuelas Mayores courtyard at the University of Salamanca, and sampling yet more local cuisine such as chanfaina (steamed rice with pork) and hornazo meat pies – drop into the visitors’ centre in the San Millán Church for all the info you need.
