  • Family-run site on a 200-year-old farm with mountain views
  • A 15-minute drive from Vélez-Rubio; an hour from the coast
  • Communal kitchen and dining room, hammocks and upcycling workshops
'Earthy vibes with nature all around you and the big blue skies above' is how this site's managers describe their happy home. With fab facilities, gorgeous gardens and upcycled décor, there's more than a little creativity on display at this 200-year-old Andalusian farm. Perhaps part of that can be attributed to the site's inspiring mountain views and abundance of hammocks (prime spots for pondering life’s big ideas…). But there's no denying that owners Paulina and Bartek, whose handiwork this whole place is, have a lot of artsy know-how: head to one of REC.ON Project's hands-on gardening or upcycling workshops to pick up a few of their tricks. There are also plenty of practical perks on site to help you get well and truly settled in. Close to the olive-fringed main pitch area there's a kitchen area, a dining room, a washing-up point and an outdoor cooking space with campfire area, grills and plenty of chillout space among the trees. Toilets and showers (including an open-air cubicle) are 300 metres away in a residential building. There's a lot of opportunity for fully disconnecting from your home and work life here, but if you're one for keeping friends and family updated on your travels you can also make use of REC.ON Project's free wifi. REC.ON Project is about a 15-minute drive from the small town of Vélez-Rubio where there's a supermarket and a handful of restaurants. Sierra María-Los Vélez Natural Park (about 20 minutes) is also close by.

Local attractions

Planning on heading out hiking in the Sierra María-Los Vélez Natural Park (20 minutes' drive)? Then pack a map, a wide-brimmed hat, some sunscreen and more water than you think you’d need. As well as the spectacular views to be had from the summits, there's a lot of wildlife in these hills, with mountain goats, tortoises and birds of prey being among the most common spots. After strolling through the backstreets of Vélez-Rubio, take a trip to see its twin town, Vélez-Blanco (20 minutes), where there's an impressive hilltop castle to inspect (best admired from afar over an ice-cool drink). Lorca (40 minutes) has a fearsome fortress that's well worth investigating too; there are also museums here on archeology, embroidery and other local Murcian crafts. Seeking sunny southern shores? Beach towns like Calarreona and San Juan de los Terreros are about an hour's drive. Up for something more strenuous than just lounging by the sea? Get onto the folks at Lunar Cable Park (55 minutes), a wet and wild wakeboarding spot – you can also check out their ninja park, kayak hire and live music events.
