Arch Rock Resort is a spectacularly set beachfront site, with stunning views over the Indian Ocean, Plettenberg Bay and the Robberg Peninsula. It's within 15 minutes of the vast Birds of Eden bird sanctuary and right next door to the Monkeyland primate centre.
Each of the spacious pitches is shaded by indigenous trees and set back a little from the beach in the lee of the cliffs, giving protection from the occasional sea breeze. Each pitch has a power point and a braai/barbecue and are only a few steps from the beach. Several pitches have a sea view.
There are separate amenities blocks for men and women with hot showers and toilets, close to the spacious washing up/scullery area. These communal facilities are kept clean and fresh at all times.

Local attractions
Plenty of outdoor activities are close by, such as swimming and surfing in the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, or swimming in the calmer waters of the Matjies River. Mussels are plentiful on the rocks to gather and fry up, and sea fishing is a popular pastime off the rocks or in the surf.
For a quiter vibe, have long walks along the beach in either direction of this Garden Route coast with its backdrop of mountains, like along to the Matjies River for a picnic then back to Arch Rock via the cliffs. An ancient Strandlopers’ cave is along this escarpment overlooking the beach, a top spot for spotting whales and dolphins.
Other wildlife to spot includes seals and otters; deer and monkeys in the forest, and many seabirds overhead and on the cliffs. Low tide is the best time for exploring the beach, when rockpools teeming with small fish, octopus and other colourful sea creatures are revealed. Twitchers are drawn to the Plettenberg Bay area for the many bird species including the Knysna lourie, eagles, herons, cranes, oystercatchers and others.
