Motutere bay top 10 holiday park - the only holiday park situated on lake taupo

Fishing, mountain biking, hiking, snow sports, natural wonders… Motutere Bay TOP 10 Holiday Park along the shore of Lake Taupo has got it all covered. How so? This place is all about lakefront stays along the shore of Lake Taupo, a lake that’s surrounded by landscapes like snow-topped winter ski fields, ancient forests, geothermal valleys with hot springs and the three volcanoes of the Tongariro National Park (they’re 45 minutes’ drive away from the site, to be precise). Right along the water’s edge, you’re in for leisurely paddles if you so wish, as the site hires out kayaks or paddleboards. There’s a gentle slope along the friendly park, which only makes sure there are excellent lake views even further away from the water (scan the horizon for Motutaiko Island too). With amenities like camp kitchens at your disposal, it should be pip-squeak to prep a snack to accompany the view. The staff here are very friendly and dedicated to fab hospitality, so they’ll be on-hand if you need them. Halfway between two townships, guests here won’t be without a little urban entertainment should they fancy it. Tūrangi, 15 minutes’ drive away, is one spot, and Taupo, half an hour’s drive away, is the other, with sports like fishing and jetskiing being one way to get stuck into the waters of the lake. To the south, the Whakapapa (55 minutes) ski fields make for excellent wintertime entertainment too.

Lakeside primitive grass campsite

Liked: Loved the site and all the available amenities. Kept clean and tidy.

Local attractions

Whether you’re here for hiking, skiing or adrenaline of some kind, it should be pretty easy to track down all three. For number one, cross over volcanoes with a day trek over the Tongariro Alpine Crossing (35 minutes’ drive). Number two’s sorted at Mount Ruapehu (an hour and 20 minutes) in the summer months. As for the latter – adrenaline activities – there are skydiving, bungee jumping, floatplane, whitewater rafting and jet boat ride experiences all within driving distance of the site. Sail, snorkel or swim around the Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings (45 minutes). The Huka Falls (35 minutes) might raise your heartbeat a little too. If it’s a slower-paced day you’re after, golfing or trout fishing might feature on your itinerary. There are spas, hot pools and dining experiences around the townships, as well as cultural, art or historical venues like the Craters of the Moon (35 minutes), Lava Glass - Glassblowing Studio (35 minutes), Taupo Museum and Art Gallery (half an hour), Market Central Taupō (25 minutes) and Huka Prawn Park (35 minutes).

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.

Dogs

Dogs are not allowed during high season between 12/20 and 02/06.
Dogs are prohibited from main facilities and amenities.
Dogs must be kept on leashes and supervised at all times.

Motorcycle(s) can be brought instead of the car(s) included.

A state-issued fishing license is required (you'll need to apply for this beforehand).
