A handy location, green surroundings and a good list of useful facilities – if that sounds a bit like your Zeeland wishlist, take a look at Camperplaats Op 't Hof van de Milliano. This small-scale site is surrounded by gorgeous greenery and yet it’s only a little way off the N61 for easy journeys to and fro. Cycling and walking are popular activities around here, and you’ll even be able to follow trails that run directly from the site (which sits between cycling junctions 47 and 50). It’s also easy to get to the coast for a beach day, or to a couple of big cities (including Ghent and Bruges) for urban wanders. Closer to home, there are useful amenities like shops and restaurants in IJzendijke (five minutes’ drive/15 minutes’ cycle) and Sluis (20 minutes’ drive/50 minutes’ cycle). The emphasis at this site is on nature so you won’t find heaps of busy facilities and noisy entertainments to get in the way of all that. The practical facilities are on point though – pitches are spacious and linked by paved paths, and guests have access to a barbecue, a launderette and drying room, a washing-up area, a chemical disposal point and a wifi service as well as a bathroom block with fully accessible facilities. Dogs are welcome here, and can have a good run about at the dog park. Meanwhile, human guests may like to entertain themselves with a go on what the owners call the ‘best swing in the Zeeland polders’…

Liked Very warm welcome. Owners dog very friendly and kept me company. Fantastic new shower block in immaculate condition. Lent me a fire pit for free.

Disliked Token for shower use, new pitches a bit overgrown and uneven as grass not recovered yet.
Price a little high considering the pitch compared to Euro parks at the same price.

A good place to start nearby is Sluis (20 minutes’ drive) – the historic town is home to a Flemish clock tower, a working windmill and a heritage trail where you can learn about some intriguing elements of its past. For more insights into times gone by, visit the living museum Het Vlaemsche Erfgoed (15 minutes) or Industrial Museum Zealand (25 minutes). Up at the coast, you can take another dip into the past at the Visserijmuseum in Breskens (15 minutes) before heading to the beach. The sandy beach runs for several miles, so you can choose a spot close to town or head further west for a quieter section flanked by the nature reserve at Waterdunen. For a bigger day out, you may like to head across the border into Belgium for some time spent exploring Bruges (45 minutes), Ghent (50 minutes) or Antwerp (an hour).
