What’s a typical packing list for Camping Vrijhaven in Friesland? Your folding deck chairs and bucket and spades might turn up at the top of the list, as the small, scenic site is on the banks of a small lake connected to the Heegermeer. Being positioned right on the lakeside, it’s likely that guests will want to pack their swimwear for the site too, as the site runs sailing, surfing, kitesurfing and paddleboarding lessons during high season. The lake’s splendid and relatively shallow waters make an excellent water play area for the kids. Learning to sail on the one-person Optimist sailing boat can also be arranged for pint-sized guests. If you’re more into your sun salutations, the site also runs yoga sessions. As a small, family-run spot, the owners count sustainability and humour as two of the most important aspects of their site. Camping Vrijhaven is pretty much designed for guests to relax and catch their breath, especially for those from urban areas who don’t see this kind of scenery every day. The fields are varied, some with more privacy or shade than others, and firepits are kindly permitted. If you want to take your bicycle for a spin, cycling trails can be accessed directly from the site – perhaps begin in Gaastmeer, 15 minutes’ ride away, where the 90-kilometre-long Helftstedentocht trail winds on through six Frisian cities and villages, past dikes, lakes, meadows and other gorgeous sights. It's a five-minute walk from Camping Vrijhaven into the village of Heeg where there are shops to source food for alfresco meals, restaurants and takeaways. Jacob, the owner of the site, has also come up with a woodburning, heated outdoor bath deliverable to your pitch for an additional price.

Liked: Achterkant van camping. Mooi plaatje. Ook was het op loopafstand van het dorp.

Disliked: Het sanitair. Het was er donker, niet fris en er was een nare geur.
Verder kregen we een plekje toegewezen naast de weg, waar rond 5 uur in de ochtend de tractoren en vrachtauto’s langs denderden. We zijn een dag eerder weg. Ook was er geen WiFi.
Watersport mogelijkheid en bar waren dicht

From the manager: He Judith, wat een slechte ervaring hebben jullie bij ons gehad. Totaal niet wat jullie hadden verwacht en dat is altijd erg jammer. Jullie zijn ook niet voor niets al eerder vertrokken! Wifi hebben we nooit aangeboden op onze camping, sterker nog, dit is waar we ook zelfs trots op zijn. Kennelijk is dat toch niet helemaal duidelijk voor jullie geweest. Heb je misschien een tip hoe we dit nog sterker of beter hadden communiceren? Het staat op de website, maar ook bij de ingang van de camping op een bord: LET OP, U NADERT EEN WIFILOZE ZONE. In het toiletgebouw achter de receptie was aan de dameskant een lamp in de douche stuk. We hebben daarvoor een nieuw armatuur besteld maar wachten nog op de levering daarvoor. Gelukkig deden de andere lampen (bij de andere douche) het wel. Het toiletgebouw wordt elke dag goed schoon gemaakt, maar wanneer het heeft geregend, kan je tegen alle inloop van de modderschoenen, er helaas niet tegenaan werken en krijgt het hele gebouw makkelijk een vieze indruk. Dat spijt ons ook. En wanneer het heel hard regent dan kan het voorkomen dat het minder lekker ruikt. Watersportmogelijkheden zijn er altijd. Kano's, sup boards kunnen per uur, per halve of hele dag gehuurd worden. Zeilboten en sloepen per weekend, midweek of week. Wil je afwijken van deze periodes, dan lukt dat zeker last minute niet meer bij ons, maar gelukkig wel bij onze collega's in het dorp waar we naar verwijzen. (dat is hooguit 15 minuten lopen of 6 minuten fietsen van de camping) De strandbar is open tijdens het Hemelvaart en Pinksterweekend, en in het hoogseizoen van ca. 10 juli tot 20 aug. Al deze info is ook te vinden op de website. Maar jullie hadden een ander idee van jullie verblijf hierover. Judith, hoe kunnen we voorkomen dat volgende gasten deze info ook missen? Schön, sauber, ruhig. Direkt am Wasser. Wlan nur am Empfang.
Keine Zecken gefunden. Ideal für Boot Besitzer. Für Hunde gut geeignet. Kinderspielplätze gut eingerichtet.

Local attractions

Boating is a big thing in this part of Friesland. Sneek (15 minutes’ drive) has a different setting for wannabe sailors. Hiring a boat may take you past the 17th-century canal gateway, Waterpoort, and rows of pretty houses. Take your time wandering between the town hall and the maritime museum. It might be a good idea to save some energy for a visit to De Alde Feanen National Park (50 minutes), where there are lengthy cycling or hiking trails among reed beds, riverways, villages and meadows. A canoe is also a splendid way to get around this wildlife haven and to get up close to the many creatures. Any wanderings in Bolsward (25 minutes) are bound to be a good time too. There’s a city hall, a church with a glass roof and boat rental – and how about a Frisian herbal bitter, Sonnema, to wash it all down?

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.
