Vakantiepark Eiland van Maurik is in the Betuwe in the floodplains of the Lower Rhine, for long days of hiking and cycling around the Dutch countryside and the island of Maurik. Details of bike routes are at the site reception and bike hire is available nearby.
Reception also sells tickets to the theme parks of the region, including Royal Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem, one of the biggest zoos in the Netherlands, and Treasure Island at Zeumeren. The Ouwehands Dierenpark zoo in Rhenen is another good option for a family day out.
The ancient city of Utrecht, one of the oldest in the Netherlands and now a busy student hub, is 25 kilometres from Eiland van Maurik. Climb the 465 steps of its Cathedral Tower for splendid city views including to Amsterdam on a clear day, then wander 800 metres or so from the tower's foot to the museum quarter where more than a dozen museums are clustered.
Den Bosch and Arnhem are both about 32 kilometres away.
