  • Peaceful rural site in Otricoli, an hour's drive from Rome and Spoleto
  • A short walk from Ocriculum archaeological site and the Tiber river
  • Play area on site; near to a trail with good birdwatching
Might one find a peaceful park that's surrounded by walking and cycle paths, near a river and an hour's drive from Rome particularly pleasing? Capitello Camping is a small quiet park just a kilometre outside the town of Otricoli and a handy hour's drive north of Rome. It's a short amble from the smashing Roman archaeological site of Ocriculum, and the Tiber river passes by a mere 500 metres away. One of the area's many walking routes that comes highly recommended follows the river as it snakes its way from Gallese to San Liberato lake, with some excellent birdwatching spots along its 25-kilometre course. On site, kids can clamber, spring and swing over in the well-equipped playground. While all this is going on, grownups can ply themselves with drinks and treats such as homemade baked goods and ice creams from the snack bar (open in July and August only, between 10am and 7pm). In Otricoli you will find several restaurants, grocery stores, a supermarket and a market every Thursday morning. Among the amenities at Capitello Camping are a launderette, a washing-up area, and a toilet block with showers and an accessible bathroom. A wifi service is also available at the bar.

Powered grass and gravel campsite

Liked Dat we een plek hadden om te overnachten, maar daar is alles meegezegd. Wij waren de enigste op de hele camping. Verder was er niemand. Behalve 1 bewaker.

Friendly staff Fun pool for kids , slides etc Shady pitch…

Local attractions

The Tiber river meanders close by for fishing, swimming and canoeing, and the remains of an ancient Roman town can be found at Ocriculum Archaeological Park, also 500 metres away. As well as partaking in one of several scenic strolls around here, you can visit the Antiquarium Casale San Fulgenzio, which showcases ancient artefacts such as decorative terracotta pieces, bricks, urns, portraits and marble sculptures. Vasanello Castle and the medieval village of Fianello are both within a tidy 10 kilometres for more historic sightseeing. Outdoor adventurers can embark on an excursion to Marmore Waterfall, 20 kilometres away, where there's also the option of rafting if you fancy dipping a paddle while you're there. Around the same distance away lies Bracciano-Martignano Regional Natural Park, and its hefty array of hiking routes and other outdoorsy pursuits. An hour's drive north will take you to Spoleto, where the Roman theatre, National Archaeological Museum and several vineyards wait to be traipsed. An hour's drive in the opposite direction lies Rome and world-famed sights such as the Vatican, the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon – as well as oodles of fab restaurants, bars, clubs and shops.
