A free beach – well, that's always a good start, eh? It gets even better when you hear that there’s direct access to the sands from Camping Free Beach, via a five-minute stroll along a shaded path through a pine wood. And it gets even even better (particularly for those with limited mobility and/or a collection of small people to marshal) with the addition of a free shuttle to run you down there during the summer.
The beach in question is the fine sandy stretch that runs alongside Marina di Bibbona, one of Tuscany’s top resorts. All-day loafing is a distinct possibility here: the sea’s calm enough for relaxed swims, sunbeds and umbrellas are provided to give you a comfy place to chill out, and there’s a beach bar that will keep you supplied with snacks and libations throughout the day. There's even a dedicated area for doggy splashing a short walk away.
The folk here haven't relied simply on the beach to provide all the interest though – nope, they’ve gone and packed the place full of other facilities, including an outdoor pool, a paddling pool, indoor and outdoor play areas, a supermarket and a restaurant serving up splendid local dishes. Still not quite enough? Come along in summer for days full of activities laid on for both bambini and bigger guests.
So, no need to leave the place for the duration then? Possibly – but if you do fancy a stroll, there are shops and restaurants a 10-minute walk away in the resort centre.

Local attractions
If you do fancy stepping away from the sun lounger, you could start by signing up for sailing, canoeing or windsurfing in Marina di Bibbona, or hiring a bike on site to pedal along the seafront path. Make it as far as Marina di Cecina (six kilometres via bike path/15 minutes’ drive) for horse riding, animal spotting at Parco Gallorose zoo or whizzing down the waterslides at Acqua Village Cecina.
In the mood for a mini spa break and a glass of vino? Source the former in the thermal waters of Sassetta (35 minutes' drive), then follow up by visiting the vineyards around Bolgheri (10 minutes). If you feel the need to do something cultural before earning such treats, meander around medieval Castagneto Carducci (20 minutes), peruse the art at Hermann Geiger Cultural Foundation (15 minutes) or see ancient bits and bobs at Cecina’s archaeology museum (20 minutes).
Fancy including some of Tuscany’s big hitters on your itinerary? You can get to Pisa or Lucca with around an hour’s drive, and to the fab city of Florence in around an hour and 45 minutes.
