For those in search of family-run fun with a little touch of luxury, Shauri Glamping in south-eastern Sicily fits the bill just nicely. Set among splendid Sicilian countryside, the site is dotted with almond and olive trees and has distant sea views to boot.
Relaxation is the name of the game here: Shauri Glamping is a peaceful and rural site that demands nothing of you other than that you hang out in the hammock on your private terrace with a glass of vino rosso... among views stretching out to sea past the countryside that surrounds the site.
Each of the bell tents accommodate up to four adults and come ready kitted out with comfy beds, cosy bed linen and soft fluffy towels. They all have their own outdoor bathroom with hot running water too, and access to a shared kitchenette and a barbecue (if you're too chic to cook, the site owners welcome you to sample their home cooking, made from their own locally sourced produce). Breakfast is included.
Although the site lies in relative remoteness, it's a handy base for getting around southeastern Sicily: you're only 10 kilometres from the centre of historic Noto, 30 minutes' drive from the beaches of the southeastern coast and 40 minutes by car from Vendicari Reserve.
And while you're making yourself completely and utterly comfy? The kids won't get bored: there's a playground on site plus hectares upon hectares of open countryside for them to explore.

Local attractions
There are plenty of walks around the land to be had in the immediate surroundings: some of the best walking trails in the area depart directly from the site, going past an ancient casemate fortress and the necropolis of Mount Finocchito. Your hosts also organise local expert-led nature walks and mountain biking tours if you fancy embarking on an expedition.
The site is half an hour's scenic drive from Noto, one of the eight south-eastern Sicilian towns that make up the UNESCO-listed Val di Noto, the other seven being Modica, Ragusa, Scicli – all within very easy reach by car – and Caltagirone, Militello Val di Catania, Catania and Palazzolo, a little further afield. A couple more historic hotspots worth a mention, if you're historically inclined, include the Roman villas of Tellaro and Casale.
Other places within an hour's drive include the beaches of Sicily's south-eastern coast, and the Vendicari and Cavagrande nature reserves, which are ideal for long walks through nature, wildlife spotting and birdwatching.
