It's free, quick and easy!
- In pine forest, less than five minutes’ walk from Orosei Gulf beaches
- A 15-minute drive from Capo Comino and 55 minutes from Nuoro
- Restaurant, bar with terrace, and on-site market
Stays close to Sardinia's stunning shoreline? Set satnav for Camping Sa Prama, a family-friendly site less than five minutes’ drive from the small Nuoro town of Sos Alinos on the gorgeous Mediterranean island.
In a pine forest on the Gulf of Orosei, the site’s spectacularly placed for beachy excursions as it's about two minutes’ walk from sandy stretches (and, if canine chums are along for the hol, five minutes' stroll from the nearest dog-friendly beach). This is a particularly good area for many days by the Med too: there are 10 pretty seaside spots within a 20-minute drive.
When the family needs a break from the sea, retreat to site to cool off in the shade of the pines, or wash off the dust of the day in the free hot showers. Kids still full of energy can spend some time at the on-site playground.
Eats are handily sorted too, with breakfast served on the bar terrace every morning and dinner available in the restaurant, which serves traditional Sardinian food, fresh seafood and woodfired pizzas. Not up for socialising? The restaurant operates a takeaway service, plus the well-stocked market on site is a top resource for self-catered meals and the communal barbecue makes outdoorsy eats a cinch.

Local attractions
If wandering along by the Med (or dipping toes) simply isn’t enough, make tracks for the nearby surf school (two minutes’ drive) to get out on the waves. Opting for a boat trip is a solid option also, and it’s worth making the 50-minute trip to Cala Gonone, where guests can join tours to the stunning Cala Luna cove and the spectacular Grotta del Bue Marino.
Below-ground explores can be had much closer to home base too, with one of Sardinia’s largest caves – Grotta di Ispinigoli – a little over half an hour away. Those not enthused by diving below the surface can opt instead for activities in the great wide open. It’s also less than five minutes from the site to Biderosa Natural Park, 45 minutes to Gennargentu National Park, and 50 minutes to the pretty nature reserve of Su Gologone.
The area’s rife with history too, so buffs should add a tranche of spots to the must-visit list, starting with the ruins of 11th-century Castello di Pontes (20 minutes) and the nearby ethnographic museum (25 minutes), and culminating with a lengthier trip to visit museums, galleries, and archaeological sites in Nuoro city (55 minutes).
