Peaceful and family-friendly, Baia d’Argento Sosta Camper is located in Leporano Marina, a small town a 25-minute drive from Taranto, in the southern Italian region of Puglia. Pitches here sit in the shade of tall stone pine trees – and you’ll be glad for that shade in the warm summer months. When the heat gets too much, you won’t have far to go for a refreshing dip, with the sea just across the main road. If you prefer a sandy expanse to the rocky beach opposite, Spiaggia di Saturo or Spiaggia delle Canne (both within a five-minute drive) might be more up your street. And when you return to the site, there are hot and cold showers to wash that golden sand out of your hair. Needless to say, watersports play a big role around here, and there’s a paddleboarding school (with equipment for hire, plus excursions for more experienced enthusiasts) on Spiaggia Lido Gandoli (five minutes). The site is completely fenced and illuminated, and someone is available 24/7 to help out with any queries you might have. Barbecues are provided, but there is no shortage of restaurants serving seafood and pizza in the vicinity, plus food stores in Leporano town.

Local attractions

The historic centre of Taranto is separated from the rest of the city by a canal overlooked by the 15th-century Castello Aragonese fortress. Wander around the narrow streets and alleyways, admiring ancient churches, checking out the artefacts at the underground Museo Ipogeo Spartano and stopping for delicious regional food specialities. Go snorkelling at the Marine Protected Area Porto Cesareo (1 hour), where you might spot seahorses, moray eels and other residents of the clear waters of the Ionian Sea. If you’re into scuba diving, the area also has interesting underwater caves. Acquazzurra Acquapark Metaponto (1 hour), in the neighbouring region of Basilicata, is a vast waterpark with twisty slides, a spin bowl and an area for young children, including a pirate-inspired playground.

Liked: Un posto tranquillo, pulito e ben attrezzato a due passi dal mare. Rocco, il proprietario, è un ragazzo gentile e disponibile che offre il servizio di navetta gratuito se occorre andare al supermercato o se si vuole andare in una spiaggia di sabbia molto bella che si trova vicino la piazzola di sosta. Pet friendly. Consiglio!

Drove there party in village gave up after not moving for 2 hours but that was not site fault
