  • Family site in stunning Gargano National Park
  • Direct access to a sandy beach with reserved spots for guests
  • Guided tours of islands and sea caves, and forest ‘safaris’
Need a holiday but worried about all the planning? At Baia di Manaccora Villaggio Turistico, a family-friendly site on the coast of Puglia, 20 minutes’ drive from the town of Peschici in Foggia, you won’t need to worry about a thing. Baia di Manaccora is a site where all the stress of organising excursions can be taken off your shoulders. Guided tours of the nearby Tremiti islands and the sea caves along the Gargano coast, and a guided ‘safari’ of the UNESCO-protected Umbra Forest, can all be booked through the on-site information office. You also won’t have to spend any valuable down time fighting with the neighbours for primo beach real estate – the team at Baia di Manaccora reserve every camper a lounger, umbrella and deck chair on the beach next to the site. Of course, if you’d prefer to forge your own way through your hols, that’s facilitated too. Rent a bike on site and set off on two wheels, or your own trusty feet, for trails through the National Park and the area around Baia di Manaccora. When you’re ready to come back to site, there’s plenty to keep you busy: play tennis, football or volleyball on the fields and courts, rack up the points in pétanque, settle in in the amphitheatre for some entertainment or just cool off in the pool. Feeling peckish? You have a lot of choice here… Head to the bar and pizzeria for something quick or make your way to the restaurant for a slap-up sit-down meal. If you’d rather fend for yourself, grab supplies from the market or fish cart to throw on the barbecue, or nab a table at one of the many restaurants within 20 minutes of Baia di Manaccora.

Local attractions

Inside Gargano National Park, Baia di Manaccora Villaggio Turistico is well-placed for making the most of your time in this spectacular part of Italy. Explore the park on foot, bike or horse back or, for something different, have a go at off-roading. You can also follow several trails somewhere that may surprise you: the ocean – take a diving tour 15 minutes’ drive from the site. The history of this part of Puglia can often skew towards the natural, and that’s something you definitely don’t want to overlook. Two absolute must-sees are the Grottone di Manaccora (a huge natural cave used first for worship and then as a burial ground), a five-minute walk along the beach, and the Necropolis of Merinum outside Vieste. While in Vieste, be sure to stick around as there’s plenty to do: make the time for the 13th-century Castello Svevo, the 19th-century lighthouse, the Pizzomunno monolith and the scenic views from the promontory.
