Pine-shaded pitches

  • Peaceful site with direct access to a beach on the Adriatic Sea
  • Bisceglie five minutes’ drive; Castel del Monte 35 minutes
  • Shaded pitches with motorhome service points; yoga and live music
Fancy the idea of waking up to heart-opening sunrise views over the Adriatic Sea and being lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves? Then you might want to head to Camping Cala Batteria. This peaceful site is about three kilometres from the Puglia town of Bisceglie (five minutes’ drive), on a low coastal plateau. A short walk takes you to the beach, and while it’s not soft, golden sand as far as the eye can see (sun loungers and umbrellas rest on a granite bed), the crystal-clear waters (so clear, you should not forget to pack your snorkel) more than make up for it. Other beaches (with pebbles or a mix of pebbles and granite slabs) can be reached within a five-minute walk. If you want to explore the splendid Puglia coast on two wheels, a cycle path runs just past the site and skirts the seafront. Spacious pitches shaded by tall maritime pine trees come with motorhome service points, drainage hook-up and chemical disposal, and the site also has a toilet/shower block with facilities for disabled guests. The helpful staff organise entertainment and activities, from yoga sessions accompanied by sea breezes (and sea views), to soirées enlivened by local musical acts, not to mention dinners featuring typical regional products and dishes. There are also seafood restaurants and pizzerias in Bisceglie, plus several supermarkets (the nearest is a 15-minute walk away).

What customers say

Fantastic seaside site with stunning coastal views & beach access. Friendly staff, spotless facilities, roomy pitches. Careful with larger vehicles at entry/exit, BYO toilet paper/soap. Dog park on-site; most amenities open off-season.

Liked No checkout time.

Disliked When we arrived they did not know that we needed a space for a tent as well as a van, so they directed us to a stone pitch. I was forced to sleep in a tent on stones. This was because they had not been told by pitchup that I had booked a tent space, which was the same problem we experienced at Camping la foret. There is clearly a hitch in the pitchup booking system.

Liked Access to the water.

Disliked So much. The ground is like concrete, and not all sites are shady. Almost every night we were there the nightclub next door played loud music till 3 am (then another hour of guests leaving). (We actually moved into a hotel on the Saturday night just to get some sleep.) Cars and motorbikes used the road next door as a racetrack at night. No toilet paper or soap! Really? Indifferent staff. WiFi non-existent.

Liked Magie welcomed us to the beautiful campsite , she personally walked us to the pitch and it was a sea view pitch. The pictures don’t do it justice. The site is lovely and calm with everything you need. Showers are fast and warm. The walks to the left and right of the camp are peaceful and easy.
We had to stay another night as it was so nice.
Thankyou magie for a great welcome and stay.

Local attractions

The centre of Trani (15 minutes’ drive) has narrow streets lined with elegant buildings. Right on the seafront are the Castello Svevo, a defensive structure built in the 13th century by Frederick II, and the Romanesque Basilica Cattedrale Beata Maria Vergine Assunta, whose light-coloured limestone is almost dazzling against the blues of the sea and the sky. Atop a vegetation-covered hill, from where it overlooks the farmlands of Alta Murgia National Park, is the UNESCO World Heritage site of Castel del Monte (35 minutes), also built by Frederick II. The limestone-and-marble castle has an octagonal structure dotted by eight octagonal towers, and might have been used as an observatory. Stroll through the Old Town of Bari (45 minutes) to see local housewives preparing and selling the local pasta (orecchiette, or little ears) outside their homes; or head to the Fish Market for some freshly caught seafood and Italian-style sushi. The Teatro Margherita sits right on the harbour and plays host to art shows and exhibitions.
