  • Scenic setting between Lake Como and Lake Lugano
  • Hikers' paradise and a popular area for foraging
  • Multilingual staff; bar open on Saturday mornings and afternoons
Come to Como… for truly it is comely. And so is Campeggio ai Colli Fioriti, set right in the Intelvi valley on three hectares of Italian countryside and surrounded by scenic hills and leafy woods: just have a gander at those site pics. Run by amiable and helpful Paolo and Stefano, Colli Fioriti is a family-friendly site, in a mild climate and a lush spot for foraging treats from the countryside in autumn and spring, hiking in the summer and quietly contemplating life, the universe and everything in all seasons. Its modern facilities are grouped around the main building, where there's a reception desk with multilingual staff and an amenities block with a laundry room. The site restaurant (open during high season only) comes with spectacular scenery as well as tasty dishes. There's also a cosy bar (open on Saturdays only, from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm) with a fireplace, a book exchange, board games and a spacious terrace. An instrument corner with guitars is in the bar too for those who fancy a bit of Como rocking. There is also an on-site shop open during high season only.

Local attractions

Campeggio ai Colli Fioriti's Intelvi valley setting is between the lakes of Como and Lugano, in an area stuffed with opps for hiking, hill walking, foraging, canyoning, horse riding and paragliding: if your nerves can take it, this last is a ripping way to see the best of the Como sights. More ripping views can be accessed from the Belvedere hotel in Lanzo, the 11th-century town at the mouth of the Intelvi valley, and at the Balcone d'Italia, the natural terrace on the Sighignola mountain that looks over Lake Lugano towards the Alps and the city of Lugano. Nearby Pigra has cable cars dangling over the valley; again, the views from here will make your eyes water… For a spot of culture, visit the Villa del Balbianello and its famed terraced gardens on the western shore of Lake Como; Villa Carlotta, the 17th-century mansion overlooking the Bellagio peninsula; Lake Lugano villa the FAI estate, and the Sacro Monte di Ossuccio, one of the nine Sacri Monti/sacred mountains in Piedmont and Lombardy that are a dedicated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Monte Generoso, Monte Sighignola, Sasso Gordona and Monte Lenno are all within a short drive.
