An excellent Italian location: Vibo Valentia's Villaggio Camping la Scogliera is in green surroundings at the foot of a granite cliff with direct access to a sandy beach just steps away, and on the Costa degli Dei or Gods' Coast, overlooking the Aeolian Islands and the Santa Eufemia Gulf. The Mediterranean climate is tiptop in this part of the world, with mild winters and hot, dry summers.
And an excellent Italian welcome: the family team running Camping la Scogliera has over 35 years' experience in welcoming guests from Italy and further afield. They open their restaurant in high season to dish up tasty Mediterranean cuisine and pizzas baked in a wood oven (naturally – it's Italy): take your plate and drink to the terrace to sample the sea views and the sunsets from here.
The team organises entertainment activities including a kids' club, shows and sports tournaments in high season, and have laid on a ping pong table, a beach volleyball court, a tennis and football pitch and a pétanque court for guests' use. Kayaks and pedalos can be hired on the beach for a small fee – we did mention that the beach is only a few step away from your pitch...?
The site has a mini market selling groceries and camping essentials (open in high season), and a laundry room with coin-operated washing machines.

Villaggio Camping la Scogliera is niftily placed for exploring the Vibo Valentia and Calabria region: hire a bike nearby and pedal off to the lighthouse in Capo Vaticano or explore the coast with its little coves, sandy beaches and heavenly settings.
The villages of Torre Marrana, Torre Ruffa and Santa Maria are within a short drive and just the ticket if you want to sample more of the local cuisine (sì).
For a bit of architecture, visit Piedigrotta Church in Pizzo or head to Vibo Valentia for a day around museums, churches, palaces and shops, and a trip to see its Norman castle.
