  • Trier 35 minutes' drive; Koblenz an hour and 10 minutes
  • Campfires, barbecues and well-behaved dogs allowed
Located in a peaceful part of western Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate, Team Waxbrunnen is a rural campsite located on a small hobby farm that dates back to 1820. The pitches here are spread out over an 8,000-square-metre horse pasture, so there's lots of room for families, groups of friends and pets to come together and enjoy an outdoor holiday. Campfires and barbecues are allowed, with designated spots provided for outdoor cook-outs, so you won't have any trouble keeping yourself cosy after dark. The facilities are on the basic side, and there are only composting toilet amenities available. For supplies, your closest village shop is five minutes down the road in Neidenbach. Team Waxbrunnen is about a five-minute drive from the small village of Sefferweich, a pretty and traditional spot that's conveniently close to the A60 motorway. There's a wide range of countryside to see in the surrounding area, including the river Kyll where it's possible to enjoy canoeing and kayaking. Slightly further afield, you can explore historic German towns like Trier and Koblenz or head over the border to Luxembourg for visits to its interesting capital city or hiking trips in the scenic Mullerthal area.

Powered grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Sehr naturnah, netter Kontakt. Ganz wichtig für alle die es nicht so naturnah mögen: Es gibt lediglich eine Trockentoilette, keine Dusche etc. Es ist also sehr ursprünglich. Wir mögen es aber und daher hat es uns auch sehr gut gefallen.

Powered grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Very nice and friendly folk! They helped us unstick our vehicle from the mud (twice even!). Pretty good location. Extremely quiet. Has horses. And very importantly: They let you build a campfire. They even provided wood and came by a few times to check on us and our fire. We didn't have time to check it out, but it seems there's a nice forest to walk through nearby too.

Local attractions

The nearby town of Bitburg (15 minutes' drive) is something of a hub for visitors to this part of Rhineland-Palatinate. Home to brewery tours, a big leisure centre and pool with waterslides as well as the ever-popular Eifelpark, a wildlife and amusement park with fairground rides and cute critters, there's bound to be something here to pique your interest. For a bigger city, Trier (35 minutes) is a great place to start. Widely considered the oldest city in Germany, it has a stunning cathedral to admire, as well as Roman ruins and great views over the Moselle river. Koblenz (an hour and 10 minutes) is also well worth visiting for rides on its cable car and tours of the Gothic Revival Stolzenfels Castle. For outdoor exploration and nature-based days out, spots like the Irrel waterfalls (20 minutes), a scenic location in the middle of a forest, are likely to be on the cards. A short distance from the falls are the Teufelsschlucht (or 'Devil's Canyons'), a dramatic gorge formed at the end of the last ice age, while across the border in Luxembourg the trails around Mullerthal (40 minutes) – known affectionately as Luxembourg’s answer to Switzerland due to its scenery – draw walkers from far and wide.
