General
- Peaceful site with fishing on the River Aller just outside of Nordburg
- A five-minute drive from Wienhausen and 20 from Celle
- Access to a well-developed network of walking and cycling paths
Nest in nature on Nordburg’s edge between a pine grove and the Aller River for a few days at Camping Am Allerstrand amid Lower Saxony’s scenic Südheide Nature Park.
This quiet family-run place, midway between Langlingen and Wienhausen, is a stellar spot for a bit of rest and relaxation – all the pitches are set by the riverbanks, so gorgeous views over the water are guaranteed.
You might be wondering whether or not you can fish from this wending waterway? If so, the answer is yes – angling is allowed on site. Sit by the river with a rod in hand, hoping for the carp, tench, eels and pike to bite while planning what to cook on the barbecue or campfire later on.
Other ways to while away the days here include hiking and biking on the excellent network of trails running through the Celle region’s meadows, forests and heathlands, as well as along the Aller River, or taking a drive towards Wienhausen Abbey (10 minutes), a working Evangelical Lutheran convent that's home to 13 nuns.
While this site in northern Germany is brilliantly basic, that doesn’t immediately mean you should get ready to rough it. The toilet facilities were renovated in 2020, so they’re modern and well kept.

For a satisfying stroll, drive to Celle (20 minutes) and admire the historic half-timbered buildings in the old town before assessing which bits of the Schloss Celle are influenced by the Renaissance or baroque periods. This landmark also has a museum, chapel and theatre, so inspecting it should keep you busy for an hour or so.
Buzz about the bee institute in town if you’re visiting in early September – the centre opens its doors to the public around then – or catch the cultural exhibits in the Bomann Museum and the contemporary works at the Celle Art Museum any other time of year.
Got the kids with you? Rush around the rides at the Erse Park Uetze (20 minutes' drive) or venture further to the Heide Park Resort (an hour and 15 minutes), the biggest amusement park in northern Germany and one of the largest in the country.
Travelling with any animal aficionados? Let them eye up exotic creatures at the Erlebnis-Zoo Hannover (45 minutes), then wander among the winged creatures or have a safari experience at the Weltvogelpark Walsrode bird park and the Serengeti Park Hodenhagen (both around an hour and 10 minutes).
