- Quiet, well-kept family-friendly site in Baden-Württemberg countryside
- Neuenstein Castle and Öhringen observation deck both 15 minutes’ drive
- Restaurant and beer garden; swimming pool and fishing lake
Feeling the need for some total relaxation? Liking the sound of a swimming pool and traditional beer garden on tap? It’s time to make your way to Camping Seewiese, a family-friendly site deep in Baden-Württemberg countryside and 10 minutes’ drive from the historic town of Öhringen.
As well as the pool, a play area keeps the kids occupied, and other handy on-site facilities include a modern shower block, a launderette and washing-up sinks. Best of all, there’s a traditional gasthof-style restaurant with a beer garden, so you don’t need to stray very far to be fed and watered.
Sitting on Buchhorn fishing lake (where you can also do a spot of wild swimming), this well-kept spot is a springboard to numerous cycling and hiking trails through unspoilt the Baden-Württemberg region. There are also lots of castles, monasteries and museums to discover, as well as a handful of cool museums for the kids.
The small community of Pfedelbach (five minutes’ drive) has a supermarket, bakery and butcher, while Öhringen offers up a bigger shopping centre and a twice-weekly market on Wednesday and Saturday.

Local attractions
Get a bird’s-eye view across the hills and plains of Baden-Württemberg when you climb to the top of Öhringen or Pfedelbach-Gleichen observation decks (both 15 minutes’ drive). Explore the region’s valleys and vineyards on cycle rides or hikes along the Brettach River (10 minutes), or spend a day walking in the untamed woodland of Klingenbrunnen Pfad (five minutes).
The landmark Neuenstein Castle (15 minutes’ drive) is open for guided tours of medieval kitchens, wonderfully over-the-top staterooms adorned with portraits and gilding, and the formal gardens. Linger awhile after your tour to wander the cobbled streets of the pretty namesake town with its colourful baroque-era architecture.
Kids needing a break from all that history and culture? Get their minds working overtime with a visit to the interactive robotic displays at Experimenta (40 minutes) – something of a contemporary masterpiece architecturally itself. Technik Museum Sinsheim (55 minutes) is another family-friendly spot featuring a Concorde as well as cars both vintage and futuristic.
