- Small and family-friendly site on the Mars peninsula
- Spectacular views of Villerest lake and the Loire river
- Pool, paddling pool and licensed restaurant with terrace
Adventurers, get thee to Mars. To the stellar Mars peninsula in France's spectacular Loire region, to be exact, a green and scenic place on the biggest meander of the lush Loire river.
A most excellent 10-kilometre walk around the peninsula can be had in these handsome parts, passing the small site of Camping De Mars on its way to and from the church in nearby Cordelle. The site is a top spot for Mars adventurers to make their voyage back to each evening, as the grounds have spectacular views of the Loire river and the adjoining Villerest lake to settle peacefully down among after a long day's exploring.
If you care not to venture too far, rowing and canoeing are available 100 metres away and many walking and hiking trails are nearby. If you care not to venture anywhere at all, the family team lays on summer activities such as pétanque competitions, darts, cooking workshops and dance nights. There's also a summer pool in scenic surrounds, fishing straight from the site, a games room, and a playground with trampoline, slide and other outdoor toys.
Camping De Mars is less than 10 minutes' drive from local town Cordelle, but if you care not to venture anywhere for eats either, the licensed site restaurant serves pizza, salad and grilled meats. Coffee, cocktails and ice creams are also available throughout the day and bread orders are taken every evening.
When you do decide to boldly go into the Mars peninsula and Loire valley countryside, a tourist info point is to hand to help you decide where to make for first.
