- Three-hectare site on the banks of the River Gervanne in the Drôme
- A 15-minute drive to canoe trips or hikes in Vercors Natural Park
- Outdoor swimming pool, bar-restaurant and river access on site
What a fabulous location this is for outdoor stays: Camping La Vaugelette is in the Drôme area, just on the edge of the Vercors Regional Natural Park.
The banks of the River Drôme itself are about five kilometres away, but there’s no need to travel that far to find water, as the River Gervanne passes right through the campsite to provide a pretty view for your picnics or a paddle. And if that’s not enough access to water, there’s also an outdoor pool on site for proper swims.
This site was originally created back in 1978 as a place for travelling bikers to stay; these days those touring on two wheels are just as welcome but the site is open to all including families and dogs. Whoever you are, you’ll get to stay at a nature-filled three-hectare site with access to facilities including a bathroom block, launderette and a bar-restaurant that opens in the mornings and evenings to keep everyone well fed (or you can pick up food supplies in Mirabel-et-Blacons, five minutes’ drive away).
Getting out to explore your surroundings should be easy from here: there are plenty of places to go for a hike, a bike ride or a motorbike drive, and canoe trips on the Drôme depart from about 15 minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions
The limestone character of the Vercors Regional Natural Park (15 minutes’ drive) means that it’s full of amazing scenery including cliffs, caves and gorges as well as pastures and forests. And of course all this makes a splendid setting for days of hiking and mountain biking along with adventure sports like climbing, caving and canyoning.
For other ways to explore, it’s a 15-minute drive to either an equestrian centre or a canoe/kayak hire outfit that can set you up with self-guided tours of various lengths, including shorter routes for families. To see the views from above, take the kids to Drôme Aventure for a go on the treetop trails.
Time for a change of scenery? There are several historic towns and attractions worth visiting in the area, including the medieval centre of Crest (15 minutes’ drive), the narrow streets and art collections of Valence (40 minutes) or the ancient mosaics of Die (35 minutes).
