  • Family-friendly Var site in a 15-acre pine forest with sea views
  • On the edge of Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, 20 minutes' walk from the main beach
  • Heated outdoor pool on site, plus free activities for all ages
The idea of staying in a 15-acre pine forest on the edge of the Sainte-Baume Regional Natural Park might be tempting enough – but add in the fact that you’ll also be just a kilometre or so from the Mediterranean coast and it’s likely you’ll agree that Camping Les Dauphins is a real winner on the location front. This green and peaceful family-friendly site is on the edge of Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, a pretty resort town on the Var coast between Marseille and Toulon. There are several lovely sandy beaches in town, but you won’t even have to stir from the site to get a glimpse of the sea, as there are views across the Bay of Les Lecques from several areas here. The town centre is not far away (about a 25-minute walk/five-minute drive), so you’ll be able to get to shops, restaurants and other amenities easily enough – but there are also plenty of useful facilities on site to help keep you fed, watered and entertained throughout your stay. Leisure time here might take you to the heated outdoor pool, the ping-pong tables or the volleyball and pétanque courts – or to the outdoor bar for a nice cool drink. There’s a play area for the younger children, along with free kids’ and teens’ club activities through the school holidays. Grownups aren’t left out either, as there are daytime activities and evening entertainments laid on for adults too. For meals, you can take a table at the restaurant, choose something from the snack bar or pick up self-catering supplies from the on-site shop.

Local attractions

To the sea first? You’ll have several options for a beach day – the town’s main beach, Plage des Lecques, is about a 20-minute walk away and a good choice for a family day, with soft sand and various watersports to try. On the other side of town, Calanque de Port d’Alon (15 minutes' drive) is a natural cove for a quieter beach experience. Boat tours and scuba/snorkel outings are available from several local providers, and there’s Aqualand Saint-Cyr-Sur-Mer (five minutes) for a different watery day out. Away from the coast, there are lots of fabulous walks to try in the Sainte-Baume Regional Natural Park, cute villages like Le Castellet and La Cadière d'Azur (both 15 minutes) and lots of wineries for tasting Provençal wines (including several within a few minutes’ drive/cycle). For longer days out, you may like to visit one of the nearby cities – perhaps heading to Toulon (20 minutes) for the Musée National de la Marine, exploring the harbour and historic buildings in Marseille (half an hour) or strolling through the Old Town in Aix-en-Provence (40 minutes).
