  • Well-equipped hillside park overlooking the Gulf of Saint-Tropez
  • A 10-minute drive from the beach at Cogolin; 15 mins from Saint-Tropez
  • Pools, water garden, sun terrace, bar, restaurant and outdoor gym
On a hill overlooking the Gulf of Saint-Tropez… that sounds splendid enough in itself for a French Riviera seaside hol. But mosey along to pretty and well-equipped Parc Montana for quite a bit more along the south France coast: you may have to book at least a couple of weeks… As aforementioned, this pretty park is set on a hill overlooking the Gulf of Saint-Tropez; it’s also five minutes’ drive from the traditional old village of Gassin, 10 from the sands at Cogolin and 20 from the beaches of Pampelonne and Escalet. Further afield – but surely recommended around this chunk of coast – swish Saint-Tropez is within 15 minutes’ drive. You can be as active or as idle as you like around these 31 wooded hectares: there’s an outdoor gym, indoor fitness suite and sports options aplenty for energetic types, as well as a multisports pitch, tennis, table tennis, beach volleyball, badminton and summer sports comps. Puffed out just reading that? Slide over to the two pools – one heated and one with a Jacuzzi and water jets – or bask on the sun terrace while the kids let loose in the water garden. (They can expend any extra energy after at the playground slide, swings, rope bridge and climbing wall…) Eats and drinks are easily sorted too: a bar, restaurant and ice cream parlour are all open in high season, serving meals and takeaway for lunch and dinner. Evening entertainment, a kids’ club and daytime activities are held in summer.

Local attractions

Fancy a vino (or several)? There are numerous wineries scattered around the surrounds, offering tours, tastings and tipples to purchase. If you don’t want to get involved in any heated chat about whose turn it is to drive, there are guided tours 10 minutes away that will transport you in more carefree manner. Gorgeous little Grimaud, 15 minutes away by car, is a classic pretty Provençal village that’s worth a stop: wander around the ruins of the 11th-century castle, the old Saint-Roch windmill and the museum of traditions or take a walk to the Fairy Bridge outside town. You might also like to take a restful ride on Le Petit Train to Port Grimaud for beach and boat trips. There’s plenty more beach to check out locally, too: as well as smart Saint-Tropez (15 minutes away), you’re also within easy reach of Sainte-Maxime (20 minutes) and Fréjus (45 minutes). Family-friendly outings along the coast include Azur Park amusement park (10 minutes), the Aqualand waterpark (20 minutes) and all manner of watersports antics in Saint-Tropez.
