  • Farm site set among an oak forest and surrounded by lavender fields
  • Hiking, cycling and mountain biking trails direct from the park
  • Outdoor pool, pétanque, ping pong and playground
It's a farm site among an oak forest (and lavender fields), and thus Camping de Valsaintes is just fab. You can set out on hiking, horse riding and mountain biking trails directly from this Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department place, have a gentler amble or pedal nearby around the region's lavender fields and vineyards like those around the hillside village of Simiane-la-Rotonde and further afield around the Valensole plateau, or take things up a heady notch or three with a session of paragliding, rafting, canoeing, canyoning and climbing, all available in the local area. Camping de Valsaintes is a peaceful and shaded site on a farmstead among an oak forest between Forcalquier, Luberon and Sault, around six kilometres from the village of Simiane-la-Rotonde on the edge of the Luberon Natural Regional Park. You'll be smart if you choose to stick around on site for some days too, as there's an outdoor pool, a play area, a pétanque court and a ping pong table to keep all ages busy during the day, and a clear sparkling night sky to lie below and gaze at the stars. It's about 10 minutes' drive from this remote farm setting to the shops and cafés of local town Simiane-la-Rotonde. The nearest market (on Tuesdays) is at Banon, about 15 minutes' drive away.

Power optional forest floor campsite

From the manager: Monsieur,
Cordialement,
L’équipe du Camping de Valsaintes

Calune 2 bedroom lodge

Liked The total peace of the remote location. Loved the simplicity of the accommodation and facilities.
Jays and nuthatches and oaks everywhere. The cool natural pond for a swim before the man-made pool was ready.
The 'hands-off' approach of the owners.
Interesting garden and good restaurant up the road.
Very good value accommodation.

Disliked Several unmaintained or impractical arrangements in the cabin we rented. The paper sheets provided lasted just a few nights before perishing. We had to buy our own cleaning materials to avoid paying the very high cleaning deposit. We didn't mind doing the cleaning but thought it was unreasonable not to provide enough equipment for us to do it. Take a tea towel.

Local attractions

Lavender fields, châteaux, and, if you're a stargazing geek, a detour to the spectacular and world-famed Haute-Provence Observatory... all are within your sightseeing grasp. It's only a kilometre from the farm to the Abbey of Valsaintes, a Cistercian abbey church that's stood handsomely in these parts since the 12th century. Within 10 minutes' drive, history buffs can also take a tour around the medieval fort of Château de Simiane-la-Rotonde, well worth a gape for its dome-shaped interior room with 12 mighty columns. Outside the castle, lavender fields aplenty are around the village of Simiane-la-Rotonde – and colourful flowers and shrubs aplenty among its medieval streets. Another handsome old commune is 20 minutes' drive away at Banon, a hillside village famed for its Le Bleuet bookshop and Banon goats' cheese. Stargazers and the generally geeky should take a trip out to the Haute-Provence Observatory, 30 minutes' drive away, for guided tours, summer events and kids' activities. Six minor planets have been discovered here (so far): dream on your journey of discovering the seventh...
