- Friendly and family-orientated site on the Loix peninsula
- Summer kids' club as well as adults' events five and six days a week
- Pool, hot tub, playground, bouncy castle and snack bar
Ah, the Île de Ré. A splendid little island any traveller of any ilk should make space for on their global trotting. And even more teeny is the island's Loix peninsula in the Île de Ré’s smallest village, an island off an island that's linked to the rest of the Île de Ré by a single narrow lane meandering through the salt marshes.
This is the home of Camping Les Ilates, a friendly and family-friendly site towards the north-eastern tip of the Loix peninsula (and handily placed a couple of minutes' bike ride from the Loix tourist office). The site is set up to entertain guests of all ages, with a programme of activities six days a week in July and August as well as a busy kids’ club led by mascot Mister Flower.
The kids' club is run five days a week: two hours in the morning and two in the evening, with a performance organised each week for small sorts to show off their stuff. Activities like theme meals, quizzes, karaoke and disco nights are held six nights a week for grownups.
There are loads of DIY leisurely options around too, including a pool, a paddling pool and a hot tub, as well as two tennis courts, a beach volleyball court, four table tennis tables and a pétanque area. Kids have a playground with bouncy castle for further entertaining antics, and can retreat indoors to the games room should they seek a cooler time inside.
Other facilities include a snack bar, a small shop and wifi access. A free-access multisports court is 800 metres away.

Local attractions
Your nearest beach is only five minutes' drive away – or a quick pedal along a safe path using a bike hired from the site team. Plage du Grouin is the sandy beach at the rocky finger of the Pointe du Grouin, accessible by foot, and lifeguarded in July and August. This is a top spot for solitary sorts, as its remote location makes it less crowded in summer.
After sunning your good self on the beach, potter along to Loix village, a kilometre and a half away (also easily reachable by bike or by foot as well as by car), via the winding lane through the salt marshes. There's a lighthouse here (Ilates), along with colourful houses to ramble around, a soap workshop to nosy into, and a local market running each day in summer to pick up the freshest of local produce.
Loix is also home to the Ecomusée du Marais Salant, a museum telling the history of the local salt trade and the 'white gold' that was once the Île de Ré's major income source.
