It's free, quick and easy!
- Traditional Mongolian yurts with countryside and canal views
- Within easy reach of a huge swimming pool with waterslides
- Donkey, pony and other friendly animals on site
A donkey, a pony, and proximity to Paris… This is a smashing family-run site on the edge of Bourg-et-Comin, between Laon, Soissons and Reims, and a easy 90-nminute drive from the lights and sights of Paris.
In a quiet corner of northern France's Aisne department, Les Yourtes Bourcominoises is among a peaceful setting on a hectare of Lydia and Yohan's expansive country garden, flanked by grazing fields and with views of the surrounding lands and the mouth of the nearby canal.
Kids will be entertained no end with Bourcominoises' furry residents, as well as with the spacious play park shrewdly situated close to the accommodation. Games of hide and seek and a lot of general running around can easily be had on the land that lies around yurts too, and it's all about 10 minutes' drive from the big swimming pool and waterslides of Center Parcs.
The yurts were handcrafted in Mongolia and are decked out with brightly coloured traditional Mongolian furniture for extra cosiness; bedding is included and guests have access to a shower room with a toilet, a sink and a vanity unit, plus plenty of space in which to scrub up. For sanitising the small folk, a baby changing table and baby bath are both available too.
When it comes to mealtimes, barbecues are allowed and picnic tables are near the yurts for alfresco family feasts among the birds and the bees; campfires are a thing here too, which means that late night storytelling, wine supping and marshmallow melting can all be a part of your Aisne stay.

Local attractions
For something city-based, there's reams to see over in ancient Reims, around 40 minutes' drive from base: the whole place has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its abundance of historic monuments including the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims where, once upon a time, France’s monarchs were bestowed with their crowns.
For a touch more history, visit Vauclair Abbey to see where monks once concocted herbal remedies from plants they procured in the surrounding forest, or tour the Voie Verte walking and cycling trail through lakes and forests between observation stations that include a bird migration area, ancient monuments and, higher up, the Chemin des Dames or ladies' path.
It's also a very splendid idea to talk to Lydia during your stay about her fave picks for the region – she highly recommends the Fort de Condé in Chivres-Val former military base and hospital, and a bee farm in Chavignon where a brill beekeeper will show you everything that happens in the hive.
Another option is to pedal over to Paissy, a handy six kilometres from Bourcominoises, to play hide and seek among the troglodyte houses.
