  • Peaceful family- and dog-friendly site near the banks of river Aisne
  • Half an hour’s drive from Soissons and 40 minutes from Reims
  • On-site restaurant, heated indoor pool and play area
If you’re seeking a stay at a site that welcomes dogs and families, narrow it down to Camping de la Pointe in Bourg-et-Comin, an Aisne park at the centre of a triangle made up of Laon, Soissons and Reims. As well as being close enough to these three top towns and cities for day trips, the site’s in a nifty location near a handful of historical attractions and within easy access of car-free adventures. Kick off scenic hikes and bike rides around local canals and alongside rivers or follow your compass towards lakes and ponds for fishing. Failed to land a fine specimen for supper? No problem. The restaurant just next door dishes up French cuisine using local ingredients and is run by folk who pride themselves on their traditional Breton crêpes. There’s also a takeaway option on pizzas – handy after long days out when all you want to do is get comfy in your digs for the evening. And if you fancy rustling up your own eats, barbecues are permitted. When your food’s gone down, dive into the heated indoor pool (open from April to September).

Liked Great pitches. Cleanest bathroom facilities I have seen. Friendly owners who run a restaurant. They sell the things you need onsite. Great indoor swimming pool. Trampoline in the shade which is great when hot. Just a very decent site.

Power optional grass RV campsite

Liked Lovely little family run campsite. Facilities all new, nice little indoor pool.

A couple of hours from the tunnel/ferry so a good stop off point for those travelling with young children wanting to break up the journey.

Disliked Lack of toilet roll in toilet cubicles (available on the windowsills outside but you have to remember to take it in!)

Power optional grass RV campsite

Liked What a great little site. From the greeting by the owners to the lovely meal we had in their Bistro, everything was perfect. The sanitary facilities were first class and very clean. Having a pool to cool down in was a bonus. Good variety of pitch sizes to suit your outfit. Would definitely recommend and will be back to explore the history rich area again.

Power optional grass tent, travel trailer or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great pitches are really good in size. Bar was a good, lovely area and the people were so friendly and helpful. Even other campers saying hello which was really nice and welcoming.

Disliked Only something small, a few kids running around the camp passed quite time.

Local attractions

History buffs will be in their element hereabouts thanks to sights like the Caverne du Dragon, the Musée du Chemin des Dames (10 minutes’ drive), an underground museum set in former war tunnels and dedicated to WWI soldiers. Vauclair Abbey (10 minutes) is another old-timey spot to visit for roams around the ruins of a 12th-century Cistercian monastery; for architecture that’s a little more intact, take yourself over to the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Laon (25 minutes) or stroll around Soissons’ ancient centre, museums and gardens (half an hour). Another settlement to skip through is Reims for its striking basilica, cathedral and palace (40 minutes). This city – considered by many to be the capital of the Champagne region – also has a handful of houses hosting tours and tastings of the fizzy stuff the area is famed for. If sipping on bubbly hasn’t quashed your hankering for historical expeditions, head to Donjon de Septmonts (half an hour) and climb to the top of the keep for views out over the countryside. Follow up with a visit to the Fort of Condé monument (20 minutes) as well to see this 17th-century site on the Séré de Rivières system. And if the kids aren’t best pleased with all these bricks-and-mortar-based adventures? Take them along to the Parc de Coupaville adventure park (half an hour) to bound on the inflatable games.
