General

  • Family site five minutes' walk from Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard
  • Zoo, waterpark, go-kart circuit and adventure park within half an hour
  • Direct access to a sandy beach along a woodland footpath

Who’s up for some fresh air? Beach time? Woodland walks? Days out at the zoo, a waterpark, an aquarium or a treetop adventure park? If that’s an enthusiastic ‘oui’ to any/all of the above (likely if you’re anywhere in the vicinity of the small sorts), hotfoot it to Camping du Pied Girard, a quiet family-friendly site in Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard.

Coast and countryside are both easily accessible from this Vendée site – the nearest beach is a 15-minute amble away through the woods, and walking trails (ranging from two to six kilometres in length) run from the site through the forests, along the riverbank and by the coast.

Wriggly kids not fond of spending their hols strapped into the car will be chuffed to hear that all the previously-mentioned days out involve less than a half-hour drive. Even closer, the village centre’s only a few minutes’ walk away for a supermarket, restaurant and summertime schedule of open-air concerts and night markets.

Mature trees fill much of the site’s land, so there’s always a shaded spot for a snooze if you’re seeking to escape the sun/chill out after an eventful day. Facilities on site include a playground and a pétanque court, and there’s a tennis court a short walk away for those who fancy a bit more activity.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Site was that good we stayed another week, its unusual being on the edge of a forest with great walks including to the beach with deer and other animals.
Pitches on natural ground so you need ramps, motorhomes allocated mainly under trees for shade which was appreciated.
Facilities good power showers toilets clean so no worries there, people that run it very little English spoken but we got by no problem.
Bread delivered 0830 roughly 7 days a week with French stick, croissants and others just out oven ohlala.
Nice beach nearby and restaurants in Clemensaue , live music once a week on seafront, 1 mile away Jard Sur Mer nice harbour , village and restaurants.
12 mile away Les Sables D alonne great big beach good for kids very touristy mainly French .
Biggest things we found roads very quiet compared to UK.
Diesel cheaper than petrol @ 151 euro , diesel @137 euro.
Free wifi for 2 weeks on pitch cant beat it.

    Disliked:

Price of food in Super U supermarket expensive no wonder French protesting againt Macron and EU.
Example - Cooked Chicken average price £14 bought one at Morrisons today £3, punnet Strawberries average £5.80 etc etc

Mediocre site, unlevel pitches. Great village08/07/2019

Close to beaches, fabulous pizzeria close by. Can hire bikes there good prices but hefty deposits.

    Disliked:

Unlevel tent pitches made of sand. Toilets were dark, varying degrees of cleanliness, no toilet rolls or handsoap. The staff were not very friendly, they did not show us/advise us of the facilities until we asked, it was a young girl that showed us to our pitch, though so she probably couldn't be expected to remember such details for customers.
It's a very noisy site at night time during our two night stay, loud music, cars and motorbikes driving past and people retuning from being out. We asked for an electric pitch, which we got but there was no shade all day I think that we were one of three or four pitches on the whole site that never had any shade all day(especially as it advertised being a woodland site). It might be helpful to let campers know this information, as it would have the difference for us.

We planned for (in advance) our stay here for 3 weeks during our 4+ month tour around France. Our objectives were ; near a beach, shaded spot, to run our aircon (phew it was hot), be able to receive a parcel containing meds., not rowdy, good local cycle network, et al the usual cleanliness etc.
Delighted that Du Pied Girard succeed for us on all fronts. The reception were informative when needed and the manager kindly lent his long hose to save us moving nearer the tap. We tried most of the local beaches during our stay, our favourite being Maison Georges Clemenceau a short walk away. Managed to feast on Periwinkles most times we went. All the nearby beaches are good though with, we are told, good surfing.
This was our first booking with Pitchup and we are very happy. So much so we booked further stays near to Limoges and Poitiers during August.

Local attractions

The Vendée’s a fab area for hols if you’re looking to keep the kids entertained/wear them out so they’ll slumber soundly. Among the top picks around here are splashing down the slides at O’Gliss waterpark (15 minutes’ drive), zooming around the track at Vendée Kart Circuit (20 minutes) and swinging through the trees at Indian Forest adventure park (20 minutes).

For a bit of history mashed up with a fun day out, try out caveman life at the Cairn stone age living museum (10 minutes) or hit Le Château des Aventuriers (15 minutes) for castle tours, dinosaur trails, swashbuckling pirates and all sorts of rides and games. Château de Talmont (15 minutes) may be more your style if you’re after more of a traditional grand house visit (although they’ll still throw in jousting demos and the like from time to time).

Creature-spotting outings nearby include insights into underwater life at the Vendée Aquarium (20 minutes) and exotic encounters with giraffes, big cats, monkeys and penguins at Zoo des Sables d’Olonne (25 minutes).
