It's free, quick and easy!
- Family-run site in Olonne-sur-Mer, 15 minutes' cycle from the beach
- 5km from beach, watersports and zoo in Les Sables d'Olonne
- Waterpark, hot tub and play area with water fountains
Wow, just check out that waterpark – waterslides, massage jets, hot tub, paddling pools and a water play area, plus a heated indoor pool in case the clouds pass over. If you’re the kind of family that can happily splash about for hours, the setup at Camping Le Nid d'Été should see a good chunk of your holiday sorted without even having to venture beyond the gates (how fab).
And the watery fun doesn’t stop there, mais non – in fact, it’s a fine idea to stash as many swimming cossies as you can in your case when you’re heading to this family-friendly place just outside Les Sables d’Olonne, for a mere 15-minute bike ride will land you on a splendid sandy stretch of the Vendée coastline (how fab, again).
Perhaps foreseeing a situation where all their guests might turn into wrinkly prunes, the folks at this family-friendly site have also cleverly provided plenty of activities away from the water, including a pétanque court, playground, bouncy castle, table tennis, a wellness area and a games room. Various entertainment and antics are laid on throughout the year, perhaps including human table football or shimmying away at the disco.
Munch your way through summer days with eats from the snack bar or the grocery store; outside of high season it’s off to the shops and restaurants a couple of kilometres away in Olonne-sur-Mer.

Local attractions
The Vendée region has around 1,000 kilometres of cycling trails, so it’s a mighty fine idea to bring bikes or hire on site to pedal through the nearby salt marshes or off to the beaches of Sauveterre or La Paracou.
You could of course also bike off to Les Sables d’Olonne (20 minutes or so) for more beach action, watersports and hanging out with the various beasts at the zoo. Canoe trips and horse riding are within a couple of kilometres too, for those who’d like to tour the area in a different way.
For a splash of history on your hols, learn about the area’s salt-producing past at Les Salines, five minutes’ drive away, or take the 20-minute drive to medieval Château de Talmont. Should the nippers’ interest in olden times need a little boost, perhaps a trip to Le Château des Aventuriers (half an hour) or Puy du Fou theme park (an hour away) might just pique their enthusiasm.
