  • Quiet site 10 minutes’ drive from the beaches of Saint-Jean-de-Monts
  • Watersports haven: paddleboarding, kayaking, surfing all 10 mins away
  • Fishing lake, barbecue area, pastry sales and plenty of room for play
Make sure to pack your swimming cossie for your stay at Camping Les Chagnelles, a quiet family-friendly site less than five minutes’ drive from Le Perrier in the Vendée region of Pays de la Loire. Les Chagnelles is 10 minutes from the Vendée coast and the nearest beaches, so there are plenty of watersports to pick up nearby – head to Saint-Jean-de-Monts to try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, surfing, windsurfing or kitesurfing or, if you prefer the sedate approach, simply go for a dip in the Atlantic. There’s lots to keep you busy on site too: kick a ball around, challenge your friends to ping pong, rack up the points in pétanque or get some peace and solitude by casting a line at the free fishing lake. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, head over to the shared barbecue area (with your supplies from the supermarket five minutes away) to get some delectables grilling; if you’re staying during the high season, don’t forgot to order your fresh bread and pastries for the morning. Need a break from the cooking? There are plenty of restaurants well worth trying within 10 minutes.

Local attractions

Dreaming of that island life? You’re covered at Camping Les Chagnelles... Your first stop should be Noirmoutier, where you can explore L’Île aux Papillons butterfly gardens, stroll the beaches, visit the château and hang out at the aquarium and waterpark. From there, make your way to Saint Gilles Croix de Vie to catch a boat out to Île d’Yeu for the forts, lighthouses and châteaux. Finally, head to the more conceptual Île des Artisans craft village to have a poke around and meet the creators. There’s plenty with a focus on nature to explore around Les Chagnelles too – the wind sculptures at Vent Garden, the scent-filled beds at Jardin der Olifacties and the environmental awareness site at Biotopia are all worth a visit, or you can stop by at Nelly’s Ranch to mount up for some horseback adventures along the beaches. Kids can be easily entertained with trips to Explora Parc treetop adventures, Atlantic Toboggan waterpark and Beau Land Park fairground (all 10 minutes away), Vendée Miniature half an hour from the site, or Planète Sauvage and Puy de Fou theme park, a little further afield.
