What customers say

Highly-rated campsite with friendly staff & great location near Montreuil Bellay chateau. Clean facilities, nice pool, bar & snacks. Mostly peaceful, though minor pitch leveling, shower spray & WiFi issues noted. Dog-friendly, good base for exploring.

Powered grass campsite (comfort)

Liked Warm welcome, (excellent English) choice of pitches and clean facilities
It's a short (steep) walk to the chateau and town but worth it.
Lovely quiet location on the riverside with nice walks.
The small pool is lovely and clean.
Good facilities for emptying your motorhome but had to hunt for the bins, they are tucked away out of sight!

Disliked You can hear the noise from the nearby road but it didn't particularly bother us.
After a lot of rain, the paths are very muddy but can't be helped!

Eden powered grass campsite (riverside)

Liked We were very happy with the pitch and position. The campsite is well laid out and the facilities were very good. There was plenty of hot water whenever we needed it.
Access to the town was easy and a lovely place to explore. The Chateau is well worth a visit with stunning views from the ramparts. Within the town is a good supermarket with everything you need.
The staff were very accommodating and we could order baguettes and croissants as needed each day.

Disliked One minor point - there is no toilet within easy reach of the swimming pool and you have to exit the area to walk over to the sanitaire.

Powered grass campsite (comfort)

Liked closeness to town. Reception staff very good. Chris extremely helpful and booked us a restaurant and the other young lady lent us a longer electric cable as the power points are quite a way from some of the pitches.

Disliked Pool restrictions. No swimming shorts. The restaurant is more of a snack bar, only serves pizza and burgers. However some very good restaurants a short walk away

Powered grass campsite (comfort)

Liked Location was beautiful. Loved taking a walk along the river just behind our pitch. Facilities were clean and regularly maintained. Staff were friendly and helpful (and very patient with our poor French!) food was lovely, the bar was great to sit and chill with a good selection of drinks. The washing machine was fairly priced and easy to use. Pool was great. And the very short walk in to the beautiful town and the chateau made for a lovely morning out.

Disliked The only negative we have is that we didn’t have longer at this site.

Eden powered grass campsite (riverside)

Liked The location and surrounding area.

Disliked The pitch was small and in full sun for most of the day. We had a riverside pitch, but was overgrown on the other side of the pitch, so no river view. We were next to a screaming baby for our 3 nights, so sleep deprived. It’s not as described, not a tranquil, riverside campsite, it’s a full on kids club, loud and not the vibe we were expecting with our teenage children, no sun loungers ever, pool was heaving and had repeated kids club events in it. Loud noise generally with lots of screaming children day and night. Shower block is old and dated and in serious need of repair.

From the manager: Dear Madam,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with our future campers.
Indeed, a 10-month-old baby next to you was ill. The parents were also upset.
You stayed with us in August, which is our busiest period. We offered one activitie at the pool during your stay in the afternoon because it was hot, and holidaymakers appreciated this. However, you were lucky to be by the river with a cool breeze. During this hot period, that is very welcome.
Nevertheless, we understand your comment and respect it, as everyone's experience can be different.
Best regards,
Sabrina and Sebastien

Local attractions

The splendid old Château de Montreuil-Bellay (viewable from the site; see pics again) sits high up above the waters of the Thouet on a setting of over 400 hectares – head here for spectacular scenery over the river and countryside below, and a tour around the castle and gardens if you're sensible enough to book in advance. After that, drop into Montreuil-Bellay to pick up the leaflet and map detailing the many fine spots to stop off at in this town, including the workshops of local potters, bookbiniders and other craftspeople. More actively, use Montreuil-Bellay as a base for Thouet for fishing and canoeing, or head off on horseback, foot or by bike on the region's marked trails. Within 15 minutes' drive, seeing the 100 or so species of the zoo at Doué-la-Fontaine makes for a smashing option for a day out, or if you're still craving cultural adventures you can reach world-famed Fontevraud Abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in 25 minutes' drive.
