- Peaceful three-hectare site scattered with woodland and orchards
- A 15-minute drive from Angers’ old town and Château de Brissac castle
- Large pool complex, playgrounds, bike rental, pétanque and tennis
Seeking a stay somewhere sedate in western France? Enter Slow Village Loire Vallée, a three-hectare site scattered with woodland and orchards that puts a focus on leisurely living in pretty Les Ponts-de-Cé.
Pause by the 3,000-square-metre swimming complex at the park or loiter next to the Loire river – this wending waterway a few metres away is just the spot for renting a canoe and sailing off on an adventure (or just wandering across the trails along the banks).
Rendezvous near the site for a meal at the Guinguette En Rouge et Loire restaurant, just outside the gates and open all day long, or rest up with a natural organic wine and craft beer on the terrace under the oak trees. Keen on cooking? Pick up ingredients at the Friday morning market in Ponts de Cé; the village also has food and drink shops including a wine merchant, deli and patisserie.
When not filling up on French fare, pootle around the park in search of activities like tennis, pétanque and football. There are also playgrounds for the youngest members of your tribe and rental bikes for relaxed rides on the Loire à Vélo trail leaving right by the site and into the countryside.
Ambles around Angers are also on the cards from here as the city’s a 15-minute drive away, and thrill-seekers can venture a little further to the Anjou Wake Park (20 minutes) for adrenaline-fuelled activities in the water.
