Pitches by the river

The site
Pitches with river views

  • Riverside site on the Loir banks, with fishing direct from the site
  • A 10-minute stroll from Durtal and the 11th-century Château de Durtal
  • Pools, playground, bar and takeaway snacks
If you're off for a riverside hol anywhere in la France, it should certainly be the Loir. Proximity to the Loir valley is fairly fab too (pour les châteaux, and other attractions like troglodyte cave houses), and then there's Loir river fishing, canoeing, bike trails – and wherever you are in the land it's mighty fine to be within strolling distance of town and a swish boulangerie too… That boulangerie is in Durtal and that Loir location is under 10 minutes' amble from town at Camping Les Portes de Anjou, a green and scenic Maine-et-Loire site next to the river. As befits such a strategic waterside setting, you can fish straight from the site here. The GR 35 hiking trail is accessible from the Portes de Anjou grounds. Around the site, there's stacks to do for all ages, including a big playground with a trampoline and table tennis. There's also an indoor games room with table football, pool and pinball, plus a pétanque court and bike hire. In high season (July and August), take to the water at the open-air pool complex, which is made up of a main pool and a paddling area. The complex (a public pool which is closed on Sundays and Mondays) is directly accessible from the campsite. For meals or drinks, you can either order bits to take away or head to the bar (open every evening in July and August). Fresh bread and pastries are also available for delivery every day in July and August.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Such a lovely campsite and wonderful views from our pitch of the Loir river. Safe and friendly site - was good for our young children. Peaceful at night too. Pool very good (it’s the public pool next door to the campsite but you get a pass a day to go in) we didn’t know this about the pool until arrival. Lovely surprise!!!
Also, very clean toilets and facilities! We really enjoyed our stay 🥰

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Beautiful pitch, right beside the river (hedge between us!)
Great onsite facilities - daughter loved the park and a short walk to the fantastic pool.
Only stayed 2 nights but it was very comfortable.

Disliked Not as much in the village as I hoped but not an issue for our short stay.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked We liked everything about this small, peaceful site, private, level pitch. Excellent, clean facilities, friendly staff and quiet at night. Perfect location on river bank, perfect for fishing, boating, stand up boarding and we even saw people swimming.
Free access to adjacent municipal pool which was lifeguarded and pristine clean.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Lovely pitches next to the river Loir and a short walk into Durtal. Peaceful site, clean and tidy with friendly welcome.
Great for a few days stay, not too many eating out options, but we did find a fantastic pop up bar by the river (but only open on Thursdays in the season).
Free local tennis courts was also a bonus.

Disliked Bit frustrating the local municipal pool was closed on the days we were there (but not the campsite's fault!)

Local attractions

After fishing, canoeing and sampling a wide selection of pastries in town, set off from the Portes de Anjou grounds on the GR 35 trail for a stroll or hike. You're well placed too for woodland walks in the forest of Chambiers, within about 10 minutes by car or 40 minutes by foot, and around the spectacular 11th-century Château de Durtal, under a kilometre away. Then take off on a châteaux trip, to the Château de Baugé, 20 minutes' drive away, and the Château d'Angers, 30 minutes away in Angers. The zoo at La Flèche is 20 minutes from the site.
